3 Redneck Tenors at the Cumberland County Playhouse April 15
What do you get when you cross good ol’ redneck humor with a classical repertoire? The 3 Redneck Tenors – A New Musical Adventure, in concert at the Cumberland County Playhouse on April 15 at 8:00 pm.
A New Musical Adventure is the original hit national touring show written and directed by opera star Matthew Lord, with arrangements by award-winning composer Craig Bohmler. It is the story of three yokels from Paris, Texas (Billy Bob, Billy Joe and Billy Billee) who happen to have big-time operatic voices. An enterprising Colonel discovers the boys and guides them on the search for the perfect venue – from rasslin’ matches to Medieval Times to a Masonic Lodge to a livestock show, and more – all the way to the big-time destination of Carnegie Hall. Along the way, you’re treated to a musical adventure packed with unbelievable tunes and of course, lots of laughs. Join the three cousins; Matthew Lord, Alex Bumpas and Blake Davidson, and their manager; Dinny McGuire for a night of cornball humor, slapstick pratfallery and jaw-dropping vocal prowess.
Matthew Lord (Billy Joe) is a versatile tenor with a voice capable of repertoire from the 18th Century to composers of today. Alex Bumpas (Billy Bob) is a high energy, up and coming tenor who is well-versed in opera, oratorio, recital and concert performances. John Wilkerson (Baritone-Billy Billee) is known for his vocal prowess, excellent acting and emotional subtlety. Dinny McGuire (Bass-As the Colonel) guides and teaches his “three redneck tenors.”
“This is a real ‘crossover’ attraction for everyone who loves fine singing,” notes Playhouse concert administrator Buster Irvin, “and who enjoys down-home fun, too.” It combines “longhair” opera composers with rollicking “opry” spirit, for results that are pure joy. Imagine ten gallon hat on Pavarotti, and Toby Keith with horny Wagnerian helmet? You’ve got it. Great voices carry clear across styles, creating great surprises.
