For the Vista
After their successful extended Broadway show; the Curtain Call Players will be bringing you a tribute to those gilded throated “Divas and Crooners”.
There will be romance honoring Valentines and as usual much comedy from the cast.
Rich Petersen (aka Wetwood Dalton) is rosining his bow and getting ready to shoot his arrows of jokes out to everyone so be prepared to laugh.
Some have asked how to define a Diva or Crooner. What comes to mind for a musical diva (man or woman) is someone who likes special treatment; a prima donna.
They prefer their microphone to be the loudest and want the best songs saved for their solos because they are the best singer around (at least in their own mind).
They usually breeze in late yet, expect the sound to be just right. And, they mostly leave without thanking the sound technician for working with them. Basically, everyone has to cater to them.
But they are much more.
A Diva is usually a glamorous and very successful female performer or personality.
Crooners can also be male or female but typically a crooner is a male singer who sings slow, romantic songs (ballads) in a soft, smooth voice. The art of crooning is one of the only forms of music that relies almost solely on the talent of the lead singer.
The beautiful voices that crooners had captivated audiences. Today, male crooners are far and few between, with Michael Buble being the most famous to Tony Bennett, who is still performing in front of live audiences.
Even though the old style jazzy feeling of the classic crooners is fading, their influence on the modern musical world is not.
Some of the crooners and divas music that will be featured in the show were made popular by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey and Cher.
This will take place Thursday through Saturday, February 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22nd.
