Don’t go chasing waterfalls
It may not be Niagara, but the Glade has a hidden gem

The wife and I went out to check out the waterfalls at Lake Glastowbury.
That’s right, Waterfalls!
The easiest way is down the side of the dam,, a climb in and out of the wooded section provide a view of the upper falls.
You have to climb down and around the small woods to get where you can view the second falls, which also get you a view of the upper falls. It not too bad this way.
We spent some time by bushwhacking from the other side by way of Aldergate Ct., off of Hawes. You can drive all the way into the turnaround and park. We hiked in about 100 yards and it’s pretty much all down hill to a creek (not there yet).
This creek had a small waterfalls on i,, not too bad! But it wasn’t the falls from the dam.
We found that someone had marked a trail with orange tape you can follow if you like. You have to cross the creek and up the hill, which is quite steep, and you have to watch where you step because of the rocks, moss and wetness.
After about 10 minutes, I reached the top of the bank that overlooks the waterfalls/creek and then followed the ridge down to where I could get a better view. Once I bushwhacked my way through the woods down to the bottom of the falls and then I followed the creek around the bend at which it matches up with the first creek I crossed. (By this time I’m sweating like a little piggy). I made my way back up the hill along the first creek where (wife) Annie was waiting for me and then we climb back up to the truck..Whew, tired now!
You can drive the unimproved road in this area, so we check out the following to see if we could find a closer way in.
If you take Hawes and then turn left on Newgate Rd. to the end and park you can also hike down to the creek and follow this up to the waterfalls, much further, and it’s all uphill on the way back, the other way was to take Hawes, turn right on Aldergate and the left on Wimberly Rd. Go to the end and park.
(You have to check these roads out on the newer map but they are mowed and clear at this time).
Well, anyway, at the end of Wimberly on the right side of the turn around if you climb down about 50 yards there is a smaller creek which I believe will meet up with the other 2 creeks and then you can follow the creek up to the falls.
We’ll have to verify that another day…
