Fairfield Glade Hiking Group looking for wildflowers on next hike April 23
On Friday, April 23 the Fairfield Glade Hikers will travel to Frozen Head State Park which is near Wartburg to hike Panther Branch. This is a great spring wildflower destination and this time in April should be prime wildflower season. Bring your wildflower book and camera if you have them. Also bring lunch to eat on the trail.
The hike is 6 miles in length and rated moderate. This hike is not too long but there are some steady uphills on the first half of the hike. We may go a little slower than normal to spot and enjoy the wildflowers. The trail is a little bumpy in spots with roots and rocks.
Hikers should wear good sturdy hiking shoes, be prepared for changes in temperature and weather, carry a day pack with first aid gear and insect repellent, and take plenty of water to drink. Be aware of your personal health and know your abilities and limitations. Everybody is different. You are responsible for your own safety during the hike. Check our web site, http://sites.google.com/site/ffghiking/Home for more information. On the web site please go to the link and find the information you need for our overnight trip to the Smokies. Reservations need to be made by May 5.
There is a sheet on the bulletin board across from the Fairfield Glade Post Office for people to sign up for the hike. The group will depart from the parking lot closest to the 4-way stop sign in FFG at the corner of Peavine and Stonehenge at 8:00am SHARP. Please be there between 7:30am and 7:45am to receive information and form carpools. If you ride with someone else to and from the hike the policy is to reimburse the driver for gas. The amount to reimburse the driver for this hike is $5.00 per person. Please have the correct amount. We hope to be back by approximately 3:00pm. We have Fairfield Glade Hikers patches for sale for $4.00 as well as map books for $8.00.
Call the leaders of the hike Ray and Marion Miner at 456-9265 if you have any questions.
