Fairfield Glade Hiking Group to Hike to Great Waterfalls
On Friday, October 5 the Fairfield Glade Hikers will hike to Big Laurel Falls and then on to Virgin Falls. This will be a 2 part hike to some of the best waterfalls in Tennessee. Everyone will go about 2.2 miles to Big Laurel Falls. If that is your final destination the return trip is the same mileage with a total of 4.4 miles. Those who feel strong enough can continue on another 2.1 miles to Virgin Falls for a round trip total of 8.6 miles to Virgin Falls. Both falls are fabulous and less than 40 miles away. The hikes are downhill to the falls, and it is uphill most of the way back. Virgin Falls is a Tennessee treasure. Bring lunch to eat on the trail.
Difficulty: This is a moderate plus hike to Big Laurel Falls and strenuous to the Virgin Falls hike. Make sure you are fit enough for each of the hikes. All trails can have roots and rocks so be careful. Boots are always required.
Hiking has risks and safety is a high priority on every outing. Hazards include uneven trails, drop-offs, slippery rocks and roots, stream crossings, wildlife encounters, auto accidents, and more. The hiking group assumes no collective or individual liability for any mishaps.
Boots, or lug soled hiking shoes are necessary to help prevent falls on slippery trails. Always bring water, insect repellent, and rain gear. Remember, all hiking is at your own risk. It is each person’s responsibility to be in good physical condition to attempt this hike.
