Daryl Beard of Crossville was the winner of a six-month membership to the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex at Crossville in the recent Holiday Challenge.
The program provided exercise, information, recipes, encouragement, and five weekly newsletters to help participants maintain or lose weight between Thanksgiving and the New Year.
It was sponsored by the CMC Wellness Complexes and the Diabetes Self-Management Program. Participants weighed in Nov. 21 and again on Jan. 2
Beard lost two pounds. His goal was not to gain weight.
Thirty-one Crossville residents and 38 Fairfield Glade residents participated.
Mary Beck of Crossville was the winner of a Wellness Complex T-shirt and Kathryn Hughes and Tina Geiseler of Fairfield Glade won 30-minute massages.
The event is scheduled each year at the holiday time. It was free for Wellness Complex members and costs $25 for non members.
Boursoulian to speak at Seminar
Lana Jeradeh Boursoulian, M.D., will be the guest speaker on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the monthly Community Seminar at the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex at Crossville.
The program is at 5 p.m. in the Conference Room. It is free and open to the general public.
A neurologist, Dr. Boursoulian’s topic will be on the value of sleep, and of exercise.
Dr. Boursoulian graduated in 2002 from the medical program at the University of Damascus, Syria. Her internship was from 2005 to 2006 at the University of Arkansas Medical Center at Little Rock.
Her residency was also at the University of Arkansas Medical Center at Little Rock from 2006 to 2009.
She completed two fellowships at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, one in clinical neurophysiology in 2010 and the other a Sleep Medicine program in 2011.
Dr. Boursoulian is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Clinical Physiology, and the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
She has memberships in the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
She is a staff member at the Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville, and has an office at 49 Cleveland Street, Suite 210.
