For The Vista
Hopefully you are in the process of dusting off your hiking poles and boots as it is time for the Fairfield Glade Hiking Group to get back on the trails.
The group’s first hike of the season is September 7 and it is in The Glade.
They will hike on two trails near the Overlook in Fairfield Glade totaling about 4.5 miles.
The new Thornhill grassy road trail is mostly level with good footing and easy hiking. The Overlook wooded trail goes through the woods and along Daddy’s Creek.
There is a couple hundred feet elevation change on the Overlook Trail, but we will take it slow for the first hike of the season.
Many hours of work have been done on these two trails by volunteers in the last several months.
You will see remote areas of The Glade that you didn’t know existed. Bring water and a snack(s) to eat on the trail. Bring insect spray for ticks and chiggers. We plan to be back by noon.
Difficulty: At 4.5 miles total this first hike of the season is rated easy. If you are thinking of hiking with us this year, this hike is a good one to get started.
Hiking has risks and safety is a high priority on every outing. The hiking group assumes no collective or individual liability for any mishaps.
You can check out the group’s website by going to Google and typing in FFG Hiking to find more information on what to wear, what to bring, and what to be aware of. You are responsible for your own safety during the hike.
There will be a sheet on the bulletin board across from the Fairfield Glade Post Office for people to sign up for each hike. The group will depart from the parking lot closest to the 4-way stop sign in FFG at the corner of Peavine and Stonehenge at 8 A.M. sharp. Please be there between 7:30 A.M. and 7:45 A.M.
