UPPER CUMBERLAND REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB APRIL MEETING

The UCRWC April meeting will be held on April 12, 2011 at 6:00 at Roane State Community College, Crossville Campus, in room #152.  The main topics for discussion will be our upcoming events.  All conservative minded ladies (and spouses) are invited to attend.  We look forward to seeing you there.

 

Spring Luncheon

On April 15th, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., Faith Bible Fellowship of Fairfield Glade will have a Spring Luncheon in the Fairfield Glade Community & Conference Center, 128 Stonehenge Dr.  The buffet will include a brunch casserole, muffins & Danish, vegetable medley, fresh mixed green salad, chicken picatta, rolls, dessert cookie tray and beverages: coffee / tea / water, all for $13.95 inclusive.  Join us for services which begin at 9:00 a.m. (Christian Ed) and / or morning worship at 10:00 a.m. And then join us for lunch right there at the FFGCCC.  We want this to be a time for you to worship with us and get acquainted with our fellowship.  Please call Linda: 707-0347, for reservations as soon as possible.

Fairfield Glade Garden Club Announces Its Geranium & Plant Sale

Mark your calendar. On April 17th, 18th, 19th and 21st, the FFG Garden Club will hold its annual geranium and plant sale. The first three days (17th – 19th) will take place at the Cumberland Country High School greenhouses. The plant sale will then move on to Robinhood Park in FFG on April 21st.  Each day will run from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM except Saturday when the sale will close at noon.  There will also be an extra-large planter filled with annuals & perennials raffled off at the end of the sale.  Winner need not be present.

Proceeds from the raffle and sale will benefit the Garden Club’s Scholarship Fund.  Each year, the Garden Club offers scholarships to graduating seniors who will be pursuing college studies in agriculture or a related field.  Your purchases can help this worthy cause while beautifying your garden with these magnificent plants.

 

KOREAN VETS TO MEET APRIL11

We will have a report on our early fund raiser and go forward filling holes for our late fund raiser.  Budget amendments and other business tabled at the March meeting will also come before the meeting to be decided upon.

 

Elks “All-you-can-eat”  Friday Fish Fry   April 13th.

The Elks Lodge is serving their famous Fish Fry on April 13th  from 4-7 pm.    For an all-inclusive price of $9.00 per person, you can enjoy All-You-Can-Eat’ fish with sides of coleslaw, French fries or baked potato and dessert.  For the non-fish lover, we offer a single serving of a half baked chicken which includes all side dishes, children 8 years and younger half price ($4.50).

Membership in the Elks Lodge is open to male and female aged 21 and over who are American citizens and believe in God.  If you would like additional information about the Elks Lodge , call 484-0150.    Please keep in mind we have limited parking so if you can car pool that would be greatly appreciated.

Cumberland Art Society 

The Cumberland Art Society, 186A S. Walnut Ave., Cookeville will present the following exhibits in April.  Open hours are Monday-Friday, noon to 4 and Sunday, 1-4.  For more information call 931-526-2424.

The CAS Backdoor Gallery will feature the National Royal School of Embroidery which will be hosted by the local Iris club.  Pieces from many states will be entered.  Their reception will be Sunday, April 1, 1-4.  The exhibit runs through Sunday, April 29 and may be viewed Monday thru Friday, noon-4 and Sunday, 1-4.

The CAS lobby will display the artwork of Betty Hood.

Joleen Wozniak will have her paintings in the Putnam 1st Mercantile Bank conference room.  Anna Tatman will be showing her work in their lobby.

The 1st Tennessee Bank lobby will show Mary Larsen-Sykes paintings.

 

CELEBRATE SPRING AT THE TANSI DANCE

Spring has sprung so celebrate the joy at the dance at the Thunderbird Activity Center in Lake Tansi Friday, April 6th beginning at 7 p.m. Two for You will provide the entertainment for your dancing & listening pleasure. Baked Cod Dinner at the Elks April 6th from  4 to 7 pm

The Elks Lodge is offering a baked Cod dinner on April 6 from 4 to 7 pm.  This all-inclusive dinner includes a healthy portion of baked cod, parsley mashed potatoes, veggie, coleslaw and dessert for $10.00 per person.

The Lodge is open to its members and their guests and is located at 1145 Genesis Road .  This is about a mile south of I-40.  Parking is limited so please car pool if you can.  Membership in the Elks Lodge is opened to males and females aged 21 and over who are American citizens and believe in God. Volunteer Coin Club to Meet April 10

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 pm.  The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South).  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Visitors and guests are welcome.  Contact Mike Puhl (456-0397) or Franc Conner (337-1247) for information.

The FFG United Methodist Women have experienced rewarding and informative meetings this year and our April 11th meeting promises to be the same. Join us for fellowship, light lunch and a program “The Geographic Mission Study on Haiti” presented by Joyce Clark of TN.  Joyce is a former TN UMW Conference President.  Joyce taught about Haiti at the School of Mission in 2011. This is a district wide mission study and guests from our District are invited to join us. Take time out for yourself and broaden your knowledge on Haiti. Bringing neighbors and friends are encouraged! Sign-ups are required and can be made at the office. Fellowship starts at 9:00 am, followed by the program and concludes with a light lunch. PPCUG Apr 16, 2012 Meeting Program: “Clean, Speed Up and Optimize Your Windows PC”

   The Plateau PC Users Group will meet Monday Apr 16, at the 127 South Senior Center, located at 1460 South Main Street in Crossville. NOTE  SUMMER MEETING TIME IS 6 PM.

 

The program topic is: HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR WINDOWS PC BY KEEPING IT CLEAN

 Spring is clean up time and computers also need routine cleaning. Randy Knowles is a local computer tech who owns his own computer consulting business which he has been running full and part time for almost 3 years now.  He also writes the blog Randy the Tech Professor, where he provides near daily tech tips, tricks, and news for novices and advanced troubleshooters alike.

Among the subjects he will discuss at the meeting program are removing old games and applications; reviewing start up programs; clearing your browser cache, cookies and history; removing junk files; cleaning your Temp folder and File History; removing Spyware and Adware; defragging your hard drive; running a scan disk of your hard drive; and the fastest desk top and Windows XP settings.

The meeting begins with questions/answers at 6 PM.  NOTE SUMMER MEETING TIME.  The Q/A session is followed by a short business meeting, with the main presentation (speaker) beginning at 7 PM. The Plateau PC Users Group meets the third Monday of the month at the 127 South Senior Center. PPCUG is dedicated to helping its members and the community better enjoy the use of personal computers. One Step Beyond

One Step Beyond, a group for people who are alone, will be going to Mitch’s in Tansi for dinner on Friday, April 13, at 4:30 P.M.

They will order delicious food off the menu and be given separate checks.  Reservations are necessary and must be called in to Bobbye Bitto 707- 8607 or Carolyn Oshry 788-1155 no later than noon, Friday, April 6.

If you have to cancel, please call Bobbye or Carolyn as this is a courtesy to the restaurant and other guests.

FFG Garden Club Offers Scholarships 

The Fairfield Glade Garden Club will once again offer scholarships to deserving high school seniors that will be continuing their education in agriculture or related fields.

Applications and program details are available through the counselors office at both of the Cumberland County high schools.

This is a great opportunity for our students to receive financial assistance for higher education.

If you know of a high school senior, living in Cumberland County, that would qualify and benefit from this scholarship fund, please direct them to see the counselor at their school.

CC Republican Women’s Club meeting set

The Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club will have their monthly meeting on April 5th at 5 p.m. at the Republican Headquarters.

This is a very important meeting so please come and bring a friend or two. They will be accepting nominations for Woman of The Year and the award will be presented at our Reagan Day Dinner on May 12.

They will also firm up the plans for their big fund raiser, the Trash and Treasure sale on April 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and April 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The ladies will be cooking up some good ole southern soups, pinto beans, cornbread, and terrific desserts.

Interdenominational service slated for April 8

The Fairfield Glade Council of Churches is announcing an inter-denominational Easter Sunrise Service for the morning of April 8th at 6:00 a.m. in the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center on Stonehenge Drive.

All are invited, whether you are or are not an active member of any church.

The six churches that are members of the FG Council of Churches are working to make this a truly unique worship experience.

An offering will be received to be distributed between two local charitable organizations, VORP (Victims Offenders Reconciliation Program of Cumberland County) and Avalon (Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program).  Checks are to be made out to FG Council of Churches.  The member churches are FG Community Church, Pastor  Charles R. Traylor; FG First Baptist Church, Pastor Leonard Markham; Christ Lutheran Church, Pastor Jenny Barnes; FG United Methodist Church, Pastors Will Wells and Lanita Monroe; St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Pastor John R. VIS to meet April 12

The April meeting for the VIS (visually Impaired Support ) group is scheduled for April 12, 2012.

The meeting will take place at The Bank of Crossville, 1251 N. Main St. Crossville from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Lana Newton , Coord. of the Blind & Visually Impaired for the State of TN.,DHS

They will also have another guest with a suprise gift for every member. Be sure to mark the date on your calendars.

VIS and the Fairfield Resident Service will be proudly presenting the Insight on Vision Conference, June 14, 2012. Forthcoming articles will be in the paper soon.

VIS is a nonprofit organization with the mission to improve the blind and visually impaired in Cumberland County thru education, transporation, closed circuit television, and support meeting. Anyone that would like to join the organization is welcome. You do not have to have an eye problem to join.

Roane State Job Fair set

Employers are invited to participate in an April 18 job fair for Roane State Community College students who are pursuing associate of applied science degrees and certificates in non-health fields and plan to graduate this year.

The fair is planned for Wednesday, April 18 from 2-5 p.m. at Roane State’s Oak Ridge campus, 701 Briarcliff Ave. Set-up begins at 1 p.m.

Piece-makers Quilt Guild meeting scheduled

The Cumberland County Piece-makers Quilt Guild will hold it’s monthly Business Meeting on Wednesday April 4th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the 127 South Senior Center located on Hwy 127 South in Crossville.

This month’s program, “What Judges Look For In Quilts” will be presented by Cumberland County Piecemakers own Award Winning Member and Author of  “A Baltimore Album,”  Marsha Radtke. Safe Driving Course offered for Seniors

The Fair Park Senior Citizens is offering an AARP Safe Driving Course at the Cumberland County Fair Grounds on Wednesday, April 11th, and Thursday, April 12th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m..

This is an eight-hour class, four hours each day. Cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Fairfield Glade United Methodist Women sets date for Rummage Sale

Save the dates for the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Women’s Rummage Sale to be held at the following times:

Thursday April 19th, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Friday, April 20th, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday, April 21st, from 8 a.m. until noon.

Come and bring a friend to this rummage sale at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, at 231 Westchester Rd. Fairfield Glade.

This is a rummage sale you do not want to miss and plans are underway to make this year even more special with new additions.

Join the many others who wait anxiously for this yearly event to find great deals on a wide variety of items.

In addition to the usual clothing you will be amazed at the “Women’s Boutique” –  jewelry, shoes and accessories. This year we have added a “Men’s Upscale Clothing Room”, along with regular men’s clothing, shoes etc..  Also, Saturday is $2.00 a bag day.

Stretch & Tone with Nan

Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church is again offering a 10-week series of Stretch & Tone Classes.

This fitness program is designed for men and women who, for one reason or another, no longer want to exercise on the floor, but still desire a full body workout.

Classes will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall every Monday and Thursday morning, 10 to 11 a.m., April 23, through June 28.  Prior sign-up is not necessary, but plan to arrive about 15 minutes before the first class, in order to register.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a hand towel with you, as well as a $1.00 contribution to help defray church expenses.  Light hand weights will be available for use during class, for those who cannot bring their own.

Vendors needed for Ladies Club Home and Garden Show

The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club is hosting its 3rd Annual Spring Marketplace Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, 2012, in Fairfield Glade.

The resort community of 8,000 full-time residents and hundreds of time share visitors, offers a unique opportunity for vendors to present their wares and expertise to a select group of homeowners.

This year the show has been expanded to include vendors offering bedding plants, landscapes, garden designs, patio furniture and other home décor ideas.

The show will be located both inside and outside at the Village Green Mall, in the center of the community, at 126 Stonehenge Drive.

Exhibits will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days and set up will be the afternoon of May 17 and the morning of May 18.

Entry fee for the two-day Spring Marketplace is $65 per booth.

Booth sizes are:  6 x 12 feet (inside) and 10 x 12 (outside).  Interested vendors may contact Marsha Mellert (931-456-4680) for booth space and information.

Kinseekers meet April 5th

The Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday April 5, at 1 p.m. at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr.

At the next meeting,we will have Patricia Lanza, writer & public speaker, with over 20 years experience. In 2011, she held a nine-part lecture series “Writing Your Memories” for Council of Churches.

Pat will speak to KINSEEKERS on how we can write our family memories.

All visitors are welcome to attend this meeting and all KINSEEKERS meetings. We meet the first THURSDAY of every month.

 

Hyssongs in concert

The Hyssongs will be in concert at Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court, Fairfield Glade on Friday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m.

Study series being offered

Beth Moore’s Mercy Triumphs is scheduled to begin April 9th at 1:30p.m. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.

This is a study of the New Testament book of James.   Beth believes that James closely resembles the Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament.  Come along with Beth Moore on a journey to get to know both the man and the Book of James.

Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes, wisdom, gifts from above and many others.

This eight-week study begins April 9th and will finish June 11th.

Golf Fundraiser set

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will hold its 2012 Golf Fundraiser on Friday, July 27 at Heatherhurst Golf (Brae) Course.

The event will begin with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start and will cost $75 per person which includes golf, cart and luncheon to follow.

The format will be 2 net best balls. ;teams: 4 man/women/mixed.
