Volunteer Coin Club to Meet March 8

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular  meeting on  Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 P.M.

The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South).

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Visitors and guests are welcome.

Medicare Class slated

Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare benefits and choices?

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is conducting a free “Welcome to Medicare” class at the Art Circle Library in Crossville on March 23, 2016 from 9 A.M. until 12 P.M.

The class will consist of training on Parts A, B, C & D, as well as Medigap policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud.

SHIP is a federally funded program administered through the Area Agency on Aging & Disability.

Celtic Circle to meet

Celtic Circle to Recognize Welsh Patron Saint on Tuesday, March 1.

The Celtic Circle has already had a busy year with our January and February Gatherings, and are looking forward to the next one on Tuesday, March 1, from 6 to 8 P.M.

They meet at the Christian Church of the Cumberlands, 1312 East First Street, Crossville. That’s halfway between Peavine Road and Main Street.

On March 1, they will be recognizing the patron saint of Wales, Saint David, who was born on March 1, during the Sixth Century. Their Welsh Cousins will serve as hosts as will enjoy Welsh food, learn more about Welsh history and sing some Welsh songs. Any questions, email [email protected].

Neighbors & Newcomers to meet on Feb. 25

Mark your calendars now and send in your reservation for the Feb. 25th meeting of Neighbor’s and Newcomer’s.

We will be meeting at the Christ Lutheran Church, 481 Snead Dr. Fairfield Glade.  Doors open at 11 A.M. and the meeting starts at 11:30.

This will be a fun meeting as our entertainment is BINGO!  You are asked to bring a simple gift (something you would enjoy too) to share as prizes.

Lunch will be catered by Lefty’s….Pulled Pork, Chicken Pieces, Baked potato, Baked beans, Salad, Rolls, Iced Tea, Peach and Apple Cobbler with Ice Cream.  Heart Smart meals are not available for this meeting.  Cost of lunch is $14 and if you do not cancel by Feb. 20 you will be responsible for payment of your meal.  You do have to have a reservation to attend (we don’t want to turn you away).

Last month we had a group from Cumberland County Play House to entertain us and give a preview of upcoming shows.

Vietnam Veterans Day set at Courthouse

As a Commemorative Partner of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, The Crab-Orchard Chapter NSDAR will turn the Gazebo on the Courthouse Square YELLOW on Tuesday, March 29 at 10 A.M. in honor of our Vietnam Veterans on Vietnam Veterans Day.

ALL former military who served during the Vietnam Era whether “boots on the ground” or by military service during the war years will be recognized.

Dulcimores to gather at Glade Mall March 12

Come listen to the Dulcimores in the Village Green Mall on Saturday March 12th at 10 A.M.

This local group, which specializes in early American music of the Appalachian Region, includes: dulcimers, violin, guitar, banjo, and harmonica, as well as others on occasion.  The present group, which practices weekly at the Plateau Creative Art Center, has played for various community, church, and group events throughout the years.

Tea Party reschedules

The February 9th meeting of the Cumberland County Tea Party  and the Cumberland County Republican Party joint candidates forum was postponed due to inclement weather.

The new date for the forum is Tuesday, February 23. The forum will be held at the Community Complex (Fair Grounds), 1398 Livingston Rd., Crossville TN 38571, on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 6 P.M. Doors will open to the public at 5:30 P.M. All concerned citizens who believe in limited government are invited to attend.

Guest speakers will be the candidates running for Cumberland County Assessor of Property. On March 1, Cumberland County registered voters will go the polls to elect the tax assessor. It is important that citizens become acquainted with the issues and the candidates who seek election to the Assessor’s Office.

Candidates will participate in a forum which will open with their brief introductory remarks. Candidates will respond to questions read by the moderator.  In order to ensure equal time, responses will be timed. The candidates, in alphabetical order are Thomas Bean, David Simcox, and Pete Souza.

The March 1 ballot is 10 pages long. Names of the candidates for Assessor are on the last   Early voting began February 10 and ends February 23, which is also the last day to request an Absentee Ballot. Election Day is March 1, 2016.

United Fund taking grant applications

Cumberland County United Fund is now accepting  2017 grant funding applications.

Requirements are for 501 C 3 non-profits that provide programs and services that meet the needs of  people in Crossville and Cumberland County, TN.  Applications are available by  calling 931-484-4082.  Deadline to submit  applications is March 10 at noon.

Also, The public is invited to the Annual Meeting of the Cumberland County United Fund on February 25 at 4 P.M. at Cumberland Good Samaritan’s on 10th Street.  Light refreshments will be served. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 931-484-4082.

Beginning Clogging Class Offered

Have you seen the Sweet T’s clogging at community events or at Hebbertsburg? Have you thought it looks like fun? Would you like to learn?

Members of the Sweet T’s Cloggers are offering a 6-week session of classes, “Introduction to Clogging,” starting March 7.

The hour-long classes will be held on Mondays at 3 P.M. in the lower level of the Fairfield Glade Library. The goals of the classes are: to have fun; to learn 5-8 basic steps and incorporate those steps into easy routines; and to exercise muscles and minds!

Previous dance experience and clogging shoes are not required, but a good sense of rhythm is most helpful!  Participants are asked to wear hard-soled shoes.

A recommended donation of $25 will be used to offset the use of music equipment and reproduction of cue sheets. Class size will be limited.

Home and Garden Show Vendors Wanted

Home and garden vendors reserve your table now for the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Sixth Annual Spring Marketplace Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.

This two day show will be held both inside and outside at the Village Green Mall, on Stonehenge in the center of Fairfield Glade.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to sell your wares at this popular, well-attended event.

Exhibits will be open to the public, from 9 A.M.. until 3 P.M. both days. Set- up will be the afternoon of May 13th and the morning of May 14th.

Wags & Whiskers Fundraiser is Back

The Wags and Whiskers “Spay-Ghetti” Dinner fundraiser runs throughout February (Lunch or Dinner) at the Genesis Italian Grille on Interstate Drive in Crossville.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the restaurant and include Genesis’ great spaghetti, meatballs, bread, salad and a drink.

Proceeds will benefit the Wags and Whiskers’ low-cost spay/neuter program, a community service that has “fixed” over 10,100 cats and dogs.

Free tax return service offered from AARP

Through the AARP TaxAide program, IRS certified tax counselors will be available in 5 area locations to assist taxpayers to review all of their tax documents, prepare and then e-file their return and this help is FREE.

These AARP foundation volunteers look forward to working with low- and moderate-income taxpayers of any age.

Call to make your appointment or for other information.  Gather together all tax documents received including healthcare coverage information and let AARP Tax-Aide help you.  It is required that you provide social security cards for all individuals listed on the tax return. The taxpayer (and spouse) must also have a photo ID.

Local Democratic Party to host county delegate Convention 

Cumberland County Democratic Party will host its Democratic Party County Delegate Convention on Saturday, March 5, at Good Samaritans, 281 Tenth St., Crossville,, to select the delegates from each county to the District Convention.

The doors open at 11 A.M. and the event is open to all registered voters in the county, supporters of the Democratic Party, and those who agree to support the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 2016 Presidential election.

Glade Dog Park is in need of donations

The Fairfield Glade Dog Park seeks donations for the annual Upcoming Trash & Treasure Sale slated for Saturday, March 19 at the Fairfield Glade Community Center.

This event is their main fundraiser for the dog  park.

They will be collecting items for this sale on the first Saturday in December, January and then expand to every Saturday in February from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M..

You may drop off your donated items at the  Glade Store-N-Lock located on Peavine Road behind Manny & Isabella’s  Restaurant.

The dog park sign will be visible from Peavine Road.

and board members will be there to help at Unit #197.

Please note we will not be accepting clothing or or electronic devices but small appliances are fine.
