Vista Gatherings – January 17th, 2012

Join our Women’s Ministry as we explore “James, Mercy Triumphs” with Beth Moore.

The Women’s  Wednesday morning Bible Study, at Fairfield Glad First Baptist Church,  is about to begin on February 1st.  Topics in this study include Joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility and prayer.  Plus, Beth introduces a new study approach she has never done before.  You are invited to join us and to reserve your study book ($15.00), sign up sheet in church foyer or contact Cynnie Kringel- 287-0423.

Plateau Patriots will host a third County Forum on Monday January 30th at Stone Memorial High School. The topic, Cumberland County Schools, will be of interest to parents and voters alike since more than half of the Cumberland County Budget is allocated  to county schools. Check the newspaper article for details on the speakers. Also, a Question and Answer Period is available at each forum. Doors open at 5:00 PM with the meeting starting at 5:30 PM. Garden Club to Share Gardening Tips

 

The FFG Garden Club will be using the January meeting to get ready for a new gardening season this coming Spring.  “Gardening Tips” will be the topic of a DVD  that will be viewed along with discussions and questions answered by the membership. Come ready to take notes and learn some new tricks to keeping those gardens healthy this coming season.

 

Everyone is welcome to attend. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th  from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM (doors open at 9:00 AM) at the Fairfield Glade Community Church at 521 Snead.  We welcome anyone interested in gardening to attend our meetings which is regularly held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  If you are interested in joining, membership is only $15 per year.  For more information, contact Margaret Brant 484-9747

 

Elks Lodge Taco Night January 20th 2012

 

The Elks Lodge offers a Taco Night every 3rd Friday of the month.  This month it falls on January 20th  From 4-7 pm.

You can enjoy 2 tacos for only $3.00 made special by “Taco Bill” and his crew.

Fun Benefit Bowling Tournament

 

Wags and Whiskers – Spay / Neuter Advocates will host a “Bowling for Fun and Fur” Dutch doubles bowling tournament on Saturday, January 21 at 2 pm.  It will be held at Plateau Bowling Lanes on Highway 70 East in Crossville and the cost is $20 per person including 3 games and shoes.  There will be prizes for great and even not-so-great performances and the proceeds go to support spay / neuter of pets in our community.  Tickets are available at the bowling alley; get a partner and join us this Saturday.  For more information about this fun event, call Lynne at  707-9906.  For more information about Wags and Whiskers, please visit their website at www.wawpr.org.

 

Volunteer Coin Club to Meet February 14

 

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 14 at 6:30 pm.  The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South).  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Visitors and guests are welcome.  Contact Mike Puhl (456-0397) or Franc Conner (337-1247) for information.

 

 

The Cumberland County Republican Party will hold their first meeting of 2012 on January 17th at 6:00 at the Fair Grounds Complex Building. Please note that this date has been changed due to scheduling conflicts and our regular monthly meetings will be on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the same time and location. For our first meeting we have invited our 3 Tax Assessor candidates: David Simcox, Steve Davis and  Charles Seiber. The agenda will also include discussions on future plans for our meetings, organizing election precincts and developing strategies for the Presidential election in November. Please bring your friends and get ready for an exciting and challenging election year. We will not be serving food at this meeting.

We are pleased to announce the up coming Light”N”Lively Dance on January 27th,the theme will be”Super Bowl Celebration” at the Multi-purpose Building on Lakeview Drive. The event will start at 7pm until 10pm and we invite all clubmembers,timeshare members and any guest eager to share in the evening of dance.

The music will be provided by artist D.J. Garrison.  The cost for non-members is $10 per couple or $5 for a single. The dance is a BYOB affair with the club supplying ice, snacks and coffee. Lynne Looney will be the featured artist at the Cumberland Art Society Backdoor Gallery January 2-29.  A public reception will be held Sunday, Jan. 22, 1-4, to honor the artist at 186A S. Walnut Ave., Cookeville.  The exhibit may also be viewed Monday thru Friday’s, noon to 4 and Sunday’s, 1-4.  For more information call the art society at 931-526-2424.

 

Looney had her first art lesson at age 5 and her art interest has continued throughout her life.  She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Instito Allende, San Miguuel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

 

Currently Looney’s main areas of interest are abstracts and oversized florals on studio canvases after 40 years of producing large-scale projects.  Her work is characterized by bold colors, expressive brushwork and multi-textured surfaces.

“Welcome to Medicare” Classes in Fairfield Glade

 

Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare benefits and choices?  The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is conducting a class for Upper Cumberland residents entering the confusing world of Medicare.  Classes will consist of training on Parts A, B, C & D, as well as Medigap (supplement) policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud.  SHIP is a federally funded program administered locally at the Upper Cumberland Development District and provides free and objective counseling to all Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers.  To enroll in the class, please call 1-877-801-0044.  Seating will be limited to 20 and will be held at the Fairfield Glade Community Center in Crossville on January 18, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Training materials will be available to those who have a reservation.

 

 

“Photography Club

The next meeting of the Plateau Photography Club will be on Thursday, January 26th at 1:00 pm at the Fairfield Glade Community Church.  At that meeting we will review photo books members have made, select a new background shot for our website and show and discuss this month’s photography topic, Black and White.

Bingo, Band-aids and more will be on the January 26th agenda  for Neighbors and Newcomers.  Make your reservation now to join us at the Art Circle Library in Crossville.  Jan. 21 is the reservation deadline (707-1683).  Lunch will be catered by Forte’s on the Square and will feature Chicken and the trimmings ($13).

Monetary contributions or supplies for the School Nurse is our project for the month(Band-aids, tissues etc).

Changing Life program meeting each Monday

Changing Life from the Inside Out meets every  Monday at The Multi-Purpose Bldg., 455 Lakeview Dr., from 9:00—10:00 a.m.

The group enjoy offering complimentary coffee, tea and muffins, along with printed hard copies of our current topics of discussion.

‘Tis the season to be jolly…’  But are we jolly?  The busy, multi-tasking urgency of the holiday season can make more demands on you and your time and can be exhausting.

holding meetings

The Upper Cumberland Stamp Club holds bi-weekly meetings at the Fair Park Senior Center at 11 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

The Senior Center is located at 1433 Livingston Rd. in Crossville, across from the County Fairgrounds.
