Corvette Club meeting date has changed

The Plateau Corvette Club invites all area Corvette owners to its monthly meeting held at 5:30 P.M on July 10th.

The meeting location is at the Crossville Outlet Mall at 228 Interstate Drive.  The meeting room is on the north side of the outlet.

Glade Democratic Meet & Greet  is scheduled

The Fairfield Glade Democratic Club is hosting a Democratic candidate Meet & Greet at Robin Hood Park on Saturday, July 12th, from noon until 2 P.M.

National and state candidates attending will include John McKamey, Governor of Tennessee; Amos Powers, US House of Representatives; Judy Barnett and Mike Walsh, Tennessee House of Representatives; and Betty Vaudt, Tennessee State Senate.

Glade constituents will also have the opportunity to speak with our local candidates: County Mayor, Thom Hassler; Cumberland County Democratic Chair and candidate for State Executive Committeeman, Dennis Gregg and Mike Walsh; and 9th District County Commissioner, Woody Geisler and John Kinnunen.

Our judicial candidates, Amy Hollars, Randy York, William Roberson, Tony Craighead, and David Brady are eager to explain their positions regarding our area’s legal-system. Dean Farley, running for Cumberland County Sheriff will also attend along with Larry Sherrill, Circuit Court Clerk.

Carrie Hassler, “Southeast Tennessee’s Leading Lady of Bluegrass,” will be providing entertainment. Big Boy BBQ will cater a delicious lunch, for just $5.

Lake St. George Regatta a “Tribute to FFG”

Residents of Lake St. George have been busy planning this year’s regatta theme, “Tribute to FFG.” The event will be held Saturday, August 2nd from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Tickets are $10 per person. Deadline for purchase will be, Saturday, July 26th.

Pontoons will gather by the marina from 2:30 to 3 P.M.. About 3:00 there will be a slow progression around the lake to showcase one of the great reasons to live in Fairfield Glade. Afterwards, please dock your boat at home and meet at the marina by 4:30.

Big Boy Barbeque will serve a meal loved by all lake residents! Remember to BYOB.

Come and promote your favorite Fairfield Glade activity, club, church, etc. Activities will include 50/50, door prizes, and great fun with area residents.

Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary meeting set

The Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary will be meeting Monday, July 7th at 3 P.M. in the Social Hall of the St. Francis Catholic Church, at 7503 Peavine Road.

All current and new members are encouraged to attend.  Guests are especially welcomed to attend to learn about the fund-raising mission and work of the Hospice Auxiliary.

The Monday, July 7th meeting will begin with refreshments and a business meeting to follow.  Current on-going projects include the sale of Auxiliary cookbooks, “Caring and Sharing,” for $10 each and sales of beautiful porcelain angel ornaments for $20 each.

These items make great gifts and support the work of the Auxiliary.  Preparations for the October Fashion Faire and the December Ball will be discussed.  Plan to attend and sign-up for an activity you would enjoy!


Crab Orchard Plans for Saturday, Festival and Fireworks on July 5

Saturday, July 5, Crab Orchard will celebrate Independence Day with activities from late morning till dark.

Vendors will start setting up as soon as the gates open at 8 A.M. and should be ready for customers by 10 A.M.

The entire list of vendors was not available when this article was submitted, but, three popular ones back this year are the TWRA laser shooting booth, the fresh funnel cakes maker, and the bouncy house for children. Several more are expected and booth space is still available and free of charge. Call Jeri at the Crab Orchard City Hall, 931-484-2815 for vendor requirements.

The main activities will start at 4 P.M., when Terry King and the Sounds of Country Band start the entertainment.  It will culminate with fireworks, supplied by Liberty Market, at dark.

Come early and stay late, come alone or come as a group.  Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets and stake out your spot to listen to great country music and watch the fireworks display. You may come as a visitor, but, you will leave as a friend.

Liberty Market will also provide free cold bottled water at the ball park. Bagged ice, soft drinks and a variety of food items will be available in the store all day long for your convenience.

Where is Crab Orchard?  Take I-40 east to exit # 329, turn left over the Interstate and go over the railroad tracks. Or, take 70 East from Crossville (about 7 miles past Peavine Road). Or, from Fairfield Glade, take Westchester Dr. to Chestnut Hills Road, turn left, go to the 3-way Stop, turn left and keep going.


Kinseekers meet July 10

Because of the 4th of July holiday the monthly KINSEEKERS meeting is set for July 10, at 1 P.M. at the  Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr, Fairfield Glade.

Everyone is who is interested in genealogy is invited to to our monthly meetings.  This month Gene Stone will present: Online state resources for Genealogy- beyond ancestry and family search,etc.

Their meetings are open to everyone who is interested in genealogy (the why’s, the how to’s or the where to go’s). If you decide to join our group it only costs $10 for the year.  Any questions, feel free to contact Erin at 456-8367.


NARFE Chapter sets meet for July 8

Members of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Cumberland County Chapter 1719 will meet at the new Cumberland County Health Department (1503 South Main Street, Crossville) at 12:15 P.M. on Tuesday, July 8, for a tour of the facilities.

Please note the time change which is necessary to lessen any disruption to normal operations of the agency.  Following the tour, members and guests will adjourn to Ryan’s Family Steak House for lunch and the business meeting.

No reservations are necessary but call 484-0331 if you have questions.

President, Chester Bush, invites all active or retired government employes and their spouses to join the group at this or any other Chapter activity.  Interesting activities and knowledgeable speakers are featured at the eight meetings per year.  Officers of the local chapter are:  President, Chester Bush; Vice President Ellie Kellermann; Secretary, Wyonne Morningstar; Treasurer, Ron Getz; and Service Officer, Bobby Suttles.

CARE to meet July 11

CARE – Community Addiction Recovery Effort – is sponsoring its next workshop for mentors to assist those transitioning back into society from the justice system at the Tennessee Career Center on July 11 from 8:30 to 11:30 A.M.

Potential mentors will be trained on the current systems to help write a resume and cover letter; how to apply for jobs online; development of interviewing skills, etc.

Jobs are a number one priority for individuals wanting to re-establish themselves in their communities to support themselves and their families and one-on-one attention will help with their success.

If you have the desire to be a “job support” mentor, call 210-7603 to register for this workshop. Space is limited to 10 attendees.

Volunteer Coin Club to meet on July 8

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 8 at 6:30 P.M.

The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South).  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Visitors and guests are welcome.  Contact Mike Puhl (456-0397) or Franc Conner (337-1247) for information.


DAR to host parade

The Crab-Orchard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will holding a July 4th Children’s Parade.  All area children from toddlers through 12 years old are invited to participate.  The parade starts at 10 A.M. at the Palace Theatre and ends at the Depot.

Children can walk, ride bikes or tricycles, pull wagons or ride battery operated vehicles.  Dress for the parade is red, white, and blue.  Each child will receive a participation certificate along with a popsicle.

For questions call 456-9010 and ask for Marsha.  DAR is a non-political organization and therefore campaign items should not be part of those in the parade including clothing, signs, etc.


“It’s an Island Thing”

Summer is here and fun-on-the-water is finally upon us. And the folks living on Lake Canterbury in Fairfield Glade are preparing for their Annual Boat Party.

This year’s event, entitled “It’s an Island Thing”, is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, with a ‘rain date’ designated as Sunday, August 4th.

Residents who have boats on Lake Canterbury are invited to decorate their boat in creative and festive ways per the event theme. Select an island somewhere in the world and decorate your boat [and crew], accordingly.

The “Parade of Boats” around Lake Canterbury will convene near the dam at 3 P.M. Hosts for this year’s event are D.J. & Donna Garrison and Charley & Sherri Manker.

The ‘pitch-in’ party following the Parade of Boats will be held on the lakefront at the Garrison’s home, 234 Lakeside Drive, once the parade boats arrive and tie-off at their dock.

One of the event’s highlights will be voting for the “Best Decorated Boat”, an honor bestowed upon the boat owners, and also accompanied by the coveted ‘Pink Flamingo’ and ‘Boat Party Trophy’.

Those items will be retained…and cherished…by the award recipients until the following annual event in 2015.

2014 St. George Regatta – Save the Date

St. George Regatta planning committee is busy planning the 2014 St. George Regatta.  They would like the residents to “Save the Date” of Saturday, August 2nd.  The theme will be “Tribute to Fairfield Glade”  — more info to follow.


New York Picnic Set

Save the date! The annual New York State Picnic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30th at the St. George Marina Pavilion in Fairfield Glade from 2 to 6 P.M.

This year’s “Coney Island Theme” will feature multi-ethnic foods that we are sure will delight everyone, plus a few additional surprises. Great food, entertainment and prizes will be the agenda for the day.  All New Yorkers and guests are welcome to attend. Stay tuned for more details.


Pioneer Day announces Entertainment Sign Up

The 30th Annual Pioneer Day is looking for Musical singers and groups for this year’s outdoor stages.

Country, Bluegrass, R&B and Gospel, there are few spots still open.  The event will be held on Saturday Sept. 13th.

Apply for Ms. Senior  County Pageant 

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2014.  Ms. Senior Cumberland County  “Age of Elegance” Pageant.

This year’s ladies will be judged on Philosophy of Life, Evening Gown, Interview, and Community Involvement.  The Cameo Club of past winners we help contestants with on stage grace, they also have evening gowns available for selection.

The contest is held during Senior Day at the Fair, which will be Wednesday August 27, 2014.  Applications are currently available at the Fair Park Senior Center, located at 1433 Livingston Road, 484-7416 and ask for Tina for more information.


Hebbertsburg Dinner/Dance set for July 5

Come to the Hebbertsburg Dinner/Dance on July 5 for some great food, music and relaxation.

They start serving the home-cooked Spaghetti Dinner at 5 P.M., with the music starting at 5:30.  The meal, prepared by the Hebbertsburg Community Center women, includes a generous helping of spaghetti and meat sauce, bread and butter and coffee, water or a soft drink for just $6. Desserts and additional drinks are available for $1 each.

The music for this Independence Day Weekend activity will be provided by the City Lites.

Those 16 and under get in free, and, the admission donation for adults is only $3 each.

All monies received go to pay the band and maintain the Community center building; all the workers are volunteers.

Hebbertsburg is about 5 miles north (away from I-40) of the 4-Way Stop in Fairfield Glade on Peavine Road.  Follow the signs to the Y in the road with the house in the center.  Take the left fork about a city block and you’ll see the blue Community Center buliding on a slight hill to the left.  Any questions?
