Regatta scheduled
Lake Canterbury Boaters — your Regatta sets sail from the dam on August 3.
“Everyday is a Holiday on Lake Canterbury” is the name of the 28th annual Regatta on Lake Canterbury. It will begin with a parade around the lake at 4 P.M., then tie up at the dock of John and Monica Kometscher at 28 Lakeside Circle.
If you do not have a boat, don’t worry, watch the parade and bring lawn chairs to the address above.
Light ‘N Lively dance
The Light ‘N’ Lively Dance Club picnic will be held at St. George Marina from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9th. There will be a catered meal, snacks, music and dancing, BYOB. Cost is $10 a person.
Light ‘N’ Lively meets the second Friday of the month, September-May. Annual membership dues are $50 a couple. Current members will receive a $10 a couple discount if dues are paid before or at the picnic. Members are encouraged to invite guests and come enjoy a social event which includes dinner, music and dancing.
First time guests have the opportunity to join Light ‘N Lively that day and will pay a one time only dues.

Korean war vets to meet July 10
Uniforms are preferred, attendance is an obligation. Bring items such a soaps, Polident, body lotion, DVDs to be subsequently taken to the VA hospitals in Murfreesboro for our less fortunate troopers.
Plateau Chapter #297, Korean War Veterans Association will next meet at the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center on Stonehenge at 1 P.M.
Interested prospects for membership are always welcomed to sit in on these meetings with no obligation affording these troopers the opportunity to view our work.

A different kind of paper drive slated
Helping Hands is collecting paper towels and toilet paper for two local charities all during the month of July.
Just pick up an extra package or two when you find them on sale and drop them off at Helping Hands Ministry on Peavine Rd. If you want a receipt for tax purposes, come during our office hours.
If you are late or early put them in our red drop box! It’s a simple thing but remember food stamps don’t cover toiletries or paper products (and Sears doesn’t give out free catalogs any more). Save the small samples of soap, shampoo etc. from your travels this summer—for some people it’s all they have to keep clean.

Elks Veterans Picnic set for August 17
The Elks Lodge is hosting their annual VETERANS picnic on August 17, from noon until 7 P.M. Everyone is welcome.
Dennis and Sheree Long will be providing music for this great event.
This affair will be taking place at Robin Hood Park just inside Fairfield Glade on Peavine Road about 7 miles from I-40. They will be serving all-you-can-eat hot dogs & hamburgers with all the fix-ins plus sides of potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and homemade desserts for $9 per person.
To quench your thirst, they will have beer, soda and water for an additional charge.
The Veterans from Murfreesboro will be arriving with a full escort about 1 P.M.
Emergency preparedness is Tea Party topic July 9
The Cumberland County Tea Party will meet at the Cumberland County Complex (Fair grounds), Crossville, Tuesday, July 9 at 6 P.M. (doors open at 5:30).
There is no admission charge. Special guest speaker will be Mark Henline. Henline has taught seminars on Emergency preparedness, long-term food storage, forming mutual assistance groups, and square foot gardening.
Henline, who is from Mt. Juliet, experienced the 2010 devastating Nashville flood, which drenched the city and interrupted essential services and the flow of goods.

Glade New Generation Dance Club event set
The New Generation Dance Club is a dinner dance club that will next meet Oct. 8 at the Fairfield Glade Community Center.
A a social hour starts at 5:30 with dinner served at 6:30 and dancing continuing until 9:30 P.M.
Dress is usually smart casual or dressy.
The club meets four times per year in March, May, October and December on the second Tuesday of these months. Membership for the first year is $35 per couple or $17.50 per single. After the first year, dues are $10 per person.

Scottish group celebrates
Members of The Scottish Society of Cumberland County encourage all with an interest in Scottish culture to join with them and attend the Burns Night Celebration at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Knoxville on Saturday, July 20.
The event is hosted by The Scottish Society of Knoxville.
This annual celebration honors Scotland’s favorite son, Robert Burns, and is modeled after the first such dinner held in Scotland in 1801 at the Burns cottage.
Social hour will begin at 5:15 et and guests will be seated at 6 P.M. et.
Tickets are $45 per person which includes a full course meal, traditional Scottish toasts, and social opportunities. The public is invited to attend. Deadline to submit reservations is July 6.

Fashion show slated
It’s time to mix it up! Do you remember the fashions mom used to wear? Want to compare them to the fashions of today?
The Women’s Fellowship of Fairfield Glade Community Church is mixing it up this year with fashions from both years-gone-by and years-to-come at an event on Sept. 18.
Models will be wearing the fashions worn decades ago along with the fashions that are making headlines today. Yesterday’s outfits are from the back of mom’s (or grandma’s) closet. Today’s outfits are from Belk of Turkey Creek.
Belk’s will be dressing the models for luncheons, cruises, and parties.

Lake St. George Regatta to be “Tailgating”
Residents of Lake St. George have been busy planning this year’s regatta theme, “Tailgate.” The event will be held Saturday, July 27 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tickets are $10 per person. Deadline for purchase will be, Saturday, July 20.
Tailgating pontoons will gather by the marina and tailgate from 2:30-3:00 P.M. At about 3:00 there will be a slow progression around the lake to showcase team loyalty. Afterwards, please dock your boat at home and meet at the marina at 4:30.
Big Boy Barbeque will serve dinner a meal loved by all tailgate enthusiasts! Remember to BYOB.
Come and “Tailgate” your team, whether it be college, pro, high school, military, etc. Activities will consist of team cheers, 50/50, door prizes, and great fun with area residents.

Fredericks to speak
Fairfield Glade Resident Services will be at Christ Lutheran Church (481 Snead Drive) on Monday, July 8, at 2 P.M. as part of our Stephen Ministries.
Joan Fredericks will be presenting the program “Caring Connections.” She is very knowledgeable about the many services available to us.
The congregation and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend. It will last about 45 minutes to one hour.
New York Picnic set
A New York State Picnic will be held Sunday, September 8 at the St. George Marina Pavilion.
The event will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 P.M. and the cost will be $10 per person. All New Yorkers and guests are welcome.

Volunteer Coin Club set to meet July 9
The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 9 at 6:30 P.M.

Annual Pioneer Day Festival scheduled
Pioneer and Heritage Day — The longest running festival in this part of Tennessee — has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14.

Photo contest slated
The Cumberland Count Master Gardners will have another photo contest during their 2014 Spring Flower and Garden Show (April 25, 26, and 27, 2014).
CASH prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place! And a cash prize for people’s choice.
There will be two categories: State Parks and UT Gardens. You will be allowed to enter both categories.
NOW is the time to start going to any of Tennessee State Parks, or any of the UT Gardens (Knoxville, Jackson and Crossville) to get your photos for next year’s contest. Remember since we are a garden organization we like to see FLOWERS, PLANTS, etc. in the photographs.

Support Group meeting cancelled, new date
The Parkinson’s Support Group’s meeting on July has been cancelled and their next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 6.
Dr. Giorgio Sirbiladze, Neurologist with The Cumberland Medical Center will be giving a presentation on Parkinson’s Disease with a question and answer time.
They will have light refreshments at the meeting, and a borrowing library with books on Parkinson’s disease. They have a choir that meet once a week and performs in our area. They are a part of a National group call the “Tremble Clefs”. They meet for exercise at the Fairfield Glade Wellness Center one day a week for exercise class.
This is a very supportive group and we welcome all who have Parkinson’s disease, and other Neuro – Movement Disorders, their loved ones, and caregivers.
They meet on the first Tuesday of the month at Christ Lutheran Church, in the Fellowship Hall, at 481 Snead Dr. in Fairfield Glade.
In September, they will be having a luncheon and a Neurologist from Knoxville or Nashville to speak to the many issues of Parkinson’s disease and any new developments in Parkinson’s research.

Kinseekers to meet
Because July 4 is a holiday, the Kinseeker’s meeting will be held a week later than normal. The next meeting for the Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 1 P.M., at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr.
At the next meeting they will learn about Irish Ancestors.

Fellowship Baptist hosts Annual Steak Fry
How does an 8 oz. grilled Rib-Eye Steak, with a baked potato, tossed salad, rolls, dessert and coffee, water or a soft drink sound to you?
And … it is only $8 per person. And, the steaks will be cooked according to your eating pleasure.
This is an annual outreach event sponsored by Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court, Fairfield Glade. They invite you and your family to join them on Saturday, July 20, at 6 P.M., to enjoy this delicious food.
The fellowship and blessings won’t stop there. The local gospel singing group, “Blood Bought”, featuring their own JoJo Kettler, will be singing after the meal. All of this will take place, rain or shine, in their comfortable pavilion.

AARP program offered
The AARP Driver Safety course, a classroom refresher course for drivers age 50 and older, will be offered at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, 231 Westchester Drive, in Fairfield Glade.
The eight-hour course will be held on two consecutive morning sessions: July 11 & 12 (Thursday & Friday) from 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. More information is available at www.aarp.org/drive.

The CPCWC is back
The Cumberland Plateau Christian Women’s Connection, a chapter of Stonecroft Ministries, invites all area ladies to celebrate with them on Thursday, July 18, from 11:30 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Cumberland County Elks Club, 1145 Genesis Road, Crossville. The doors will open at 11 A.M.
After a seven-month hiatus, the Christian Women’s Connection luncheons are resuming on the same day of the month as before, but at a new, centrally located and permanent location.
The menu will be grilled chicken breast, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes and apple cobbler, plus, water, tea and coffee, and the all-inclusive cost is still just $12 per gal.
