Full Course Steak Fry and Karaoke slated

Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court, Fairfield Glade, is having their annual Steak Fry on Saturday, August 16 at 6 P.M. in their pavilion (or in the Fellowship Hall, if the weather’s bad.)

This year in addition to the delicious food, Bob Jones will have his karaoke system there. (If you attended their Ole Fashioned Picnic on July 4th, you know what a fun-time they had.)

Is your mouth watering for a New York Strip steak (approximately 8 oz.) grilled to your specifications, baked potato, tossed salad, rolls, desserts and soft drinks, all for just $9 a person?

Well then, RSVP to the church office at 931-456-2525 ASAP. (If you call when the church office is closed, just leave your name and phone number and you will be called back.) Seating is limited to 60 people, so don’t wait. Children are welcome and can order a hot dog meal with all the side dishes for only $4 each.

Reservation and payment must be in by Wednesday, August 13 at 6 P.M. One more thing…steaks are hard on paper plates, so, Bring your own plates and steak knives.  They’ll provide the food, the rest of the plastic ‘silverware’, drinking cups and the fun.

Marathon Pinochle set

Want to meet new people, old friends, and enjoy playing pinochle? Now is the time to enroll for the 2014-2015 season. Play begins in early September and ends next May.

They play single deck with the opening bid of 16, dealer gets stuck at 15.

Games are scheduled monthly (but can be played at any mutually convenient date for you and your opponent).

Each team plays nine games, which are alternately at your or your opponent’s homes.

Cost per season is $11per person, $22 per couple which covers prizes and club expenses. Prizes sre awarded at a catered luncheon in June.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday June 13.,2015. Details will be provided at a later date.

Kinseekers meet Aug. 7

There was a last minute schedule change for the July meeting, so if you wanted to hear Gene Stone’s talk and you thought you missed it — you are in luck! Here is your chance to hear it.

Kinseekers will have its meeting on August 7, at 1 P.M.. at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr.

Everyone is who is interested in genealogy is invited to to our monthly meetings.  This month Gene Stone will present online state resources for genealogy-beyond ancestry and family search, using U.S. Gen web and Cindi’s list for state records online.

Their meetings are open to everyone who is interested in genealogy (the why’s, the how to’s or the where to go’s) .

Hebbetsburg dances set for August and Sept.

If you haven’t made it to the Hebbertsburg Community Center Dinner/Dance yet this season, you have two opportunities left,  August and September.

The August dance is traditionally the Fire Hall Fund Raise; however, due to unforeseen circumstances, that will not be the case this August.

Saturday, August 2,  will be a regular dinner/dance with all funds collected being used to compensate the band, and maintain the Community Center building and grounds. (All the workers are volunteers.)

The doors open at 5 P.M. with the homemade Spaghetti Dinner, bread and a beverage available for just $6. The music starts at 5:30 and continues till 8:30. There is a $3 admission charge for folks over 16 yeas old. Children 16 and younger get in free.  And, children are welcome. This is great family entertainment and you can bring the whole gang.

Jack Melling and The Sounds of the Country will be the featured entertainers. Jack plays the rhythm guitar and sings, Terry King is on steel guitar, Luther Myers and Rob Baker both play lead guitar, and Rob also sings. Dino King plays bass and sings, with CW Pemberton ‘beatin’ the drums.

During the intermissions, our very own, talented, local”Sweet Ts” Clogging gals will inspire us with their syncopated routines. And, we’ll have our ‘Fun and Famous CakeWalk’, where, for just a $1,  you have a chance to win a delicious cake (or pie) furnished by one of our Hebbertsburg ladies.

Mistletoe Marketplace Vendors Wanted

Mistletoe Marketplace vendors don’t miss this early opportunity to reserve your space now for the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club annual Mistletoe Marketplace on Saturday, November 8th from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.

The marketplace will be held at the Village Green Mall and the Fairfield Glade Conference Center, in the center of Fairfield Glade on Stonehenge Drive off Peavine Road.

This is a great opportunity to sell your quality wares at this pre-holiday, well-attended event.

Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary set to meet

The Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary will be meeting Monday, August 4th at 3 P.M. in the Social Hall of the St. Francis Catholic Church, at 7503 Peavine Road.

All current and new members are encouraged to attend.  Guests are especially welcomed to attend to learn about the fund-raising mission and work of the Hospice Auxiliary.

Ohio Picnic — last chance to sign up

Response has been disappointing for registration to the Ohio Picnic scheduled for August 16. Your response is needed by August 2 so that a decision can be made whether to cancel the event due to lack of interest.

New Generation Dance Event slated in October

The New Generation Dance Club is a dinner dance club that features a social hour starting at 5:30 P.M. with dinner served at 6:30 P.M.and dancing continuing until 9:30 P.M.

Their dances are held at the Fairfield Glade Community Conference Center and dress is usually smart casual or dressy.

If you are new to this area, this is a great way to meet people.  Or, if you are a longtime resident and looking for a nice evening out, plan to attend our next New Generation Dance Club event on Tuesday, October 14.

The club was started in 1990 to provide an evening of dining, sociability, dancing, fellowship and expanded friendship.

They meet four times per year in March, May, October and December on the second Tuesday of these months.  Membership for the first year is $35 per couple or $17.50 per single.

Dance committees are volunteers from the membership who plan the theme and menu, plus act as hosts and hostesses for that selected dance.  Invitations with menu selections  are mailed to the membership six weeks prior to each dance.  Guests may attend and then consider joining our dance club.  If you wish to sit with friends you can make table reservations.  If you wish to make new friends you will be seated accordingly.  Invitation responses are returned to the club Vice President along with a check, meal selections and seating preference.

SHIP representatives from the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging & Disability will be at the Fairfield Glade Resident Services located at 4929 Peavine Road (near Food City) on August 4 & 25 from 9 A.M. to noon to help counsel on any Medicare questions, abuseor concerns.

Golf Scramble set

The Upper Cumberland Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting a Golf Scramble on Saturday August 16 at the Heatherhurst Crag course.

Registration starts at 7 A.M. with a 7:30 A.M. shotgun start. The cost per player is $100, which includes golf with cart, a Leftys BBQ lunch, a goody bag, hat, great team and individual prizes, and support for our local FCA huddles.

It’s Spay-Ghetti” time again in August

It’s time again for the ever-popular Wags and Whiskers “Spay-Ghetti” fundraising event at Genesis Italian Grille on Interstate Dr. in Crossville.

Tickets are good for lunch or dinner anytime in the month of August and include Genesis’ great spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread and a drink.

Tickets are $10, with the proceeds going to help provide low-cost pay/neuter of dogs and cats in the community.

Wags and Whiskers has funded over 8,600 of these surgeries so far but needs help reaching their 2014 goal of over 1,300.

Tickets are available at the Bed and Biscuit Kennel of Peavine Rd., Happy Hound Realty near the Peavine Rd. Dollar General store and at the Duplicate store on the four-lane at Chuckles Dr.

Lake St. George Regatta a “Tribute to FFG”

Residents of Lake St. George have been busy planning this year’s regatta theme, “Tribute to FFG.” The event will be held Saturday, August 2nd from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Tickets are $10 per person. Deadline for purchase will be, Saturday, July 26th.

Pontoons will gather by the marina from 2:30 to 3 P.M.. About 3:00 there will be a slow progression around the lake to showcase one of the great reasons to live in Fairfield Glade.

Afterwards, please dock your boat at home and meet at the marina by 4:30.

Big Boy Barbeque will serve a meal loved by all lake residents! Remember to BYOB.

Come and promote your favorite Fairfield Glade activity, club, church, etc. Activities will include 50/50, door prizes, and great fun with area residents.

“It’s an Island Thing”

Summer is here and fun-on-the-water is finally upon us. And the folks living on Lake Canterbury in Fairfield Glade are preparing for their Annual Boat Party.

This year’s event, entitled “It’s an Island Thing”, is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, with a ‘rain date’ designated as Sunday, August 3rd.

Residents who have boats on Lake Canterbury are invited to decorate their boat in creative and festive ways per the event theme. Select an island somewhere in the world and decorate your boat [and crew], accordingly.

The “Parade of Boats” around Lake Canterbury will convene near the dam at 3 P.M. Hosts for this year’s event are D.J. & Donna Garrison and Charley & Sherri Manker.

The ‘pitch-in’ party following the Parade of Boats will be held on the lakefront at the Garrison’s home, 234 Lakeside Drive, once the parade boats arrive and tie-off at their dock.

One of the event’s highlights will be voting for the “Best Decorated Boat”, an honor bestowed upon the boat owners, and also accompanied by the coveted ‘Pink Flamingo’ and ‘Boat Party Trophy’.

Those items will be retained…and cherished…by the award recipients until the following annual event in 2015.

New York Picnic Set

Save the date! The annual New York State Picnic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30th at the St. George Marina Pavilion in Fairfield Glade from 2 to 6 P.M.

This year’s “Coney Island Theme” will feature multi-ethnic foods that we are sure will delight everyone, plus a few additional surprises. Great food, entertainment and prizes will be the agenda for the day.

The 30th Annual Pioneer Day is looking for Musical singers and groups for this year’s outdoor stages.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2014.  Ms. Senior Cumberland County  “Age of Elegance” Pageant.

This year’s ladies will be judged on Philosophy of Life, Evening Gown, Interview, and Community Involvement.

Wednesday August 27, 2014.  Applications are currently available at the Fair Park Senior Center, located at 1433 Livingston.

The contest is held during Senior Day at the Fair.
