“It’s an Island Thing”

Summer is here and fun-on-the-water is finally upon us. And the folks living on Lake Canterbury in Fairfield Glade are preparing for their Annual Boat Party.

This year’s event, entitled “It’s an Island Thing”, is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, with a ‘rain date’ designated as Sunday, August 4th.

Residents who have boats on Lake Canterbury are invited to decorate their boat in creative and festive ways per the event theme. Select an island somewhere in the world and decorate your boat [and crew], accordingly.

The “Parade of Boats” around Lake Canterbury will convene near the dam at 3 P.M. Hosts for this year’s event are D.J. & Donna Garrison and Charley & Sherri Manker.

The ‘pitch-in’ party following the Parade of Boats will be held on the lakefront at the Garrison’s home, 234 Lakeside Drive, once the parade boats arrive and tie-off at their dock.

All Lake Canterbury residents are invited to the party, whether they are boat owners or not. Those attending should bring a dish to share, along with their preferred beverages and utensils; they should also bring lawn chairs, if they are needed. The hosts will provide “Island Dogs”, some non-alcoholic drinks, ice and cups for all who attend.

One of the event’s highlights will be voting for the “Best Decorated Boat”, an honor bestowed upon the boat owners, and also accompanied by the coveted ‘Pink Flamingo’ and ‘Boat Party Trophy’.

Those items will be retained…and cherished…by the award recipients until the following annual event in 2015.

If you have other questions regarding this event, you may contact the hosts at [email protected] or [email protected] .
