Riding program offered

Wildwood Stable  announces a new riding program which teaches life skills to local youth ages 7-12. Under the direction of  two certified PATH instructors kids spend eight weeks learning about life with horses as their partner.

Each Saturday  they will have a fun morning working in both individual and group settings. As they complete the program we anticipate a kid will emerge as a confident youngster ready to face the challenges confronting them every day.

We need volunteers! On June 16 we will be doing an overview and training for volunteers. You do not need to be a “horse” person.  You do need to have a warm heart and desire to help our local children. Applications to volunteer are on the Wildwood Stable web site or at Wildwood Stable at 7305 Chestnut Hill Rd in Cumberland County. Call 931 -484 -3733for more information.

Helping Cumberland County’s Needy Cats

This spring is rough! Wild About Cats, a local rescue organization, is facing two problems: not only are more kittens born to homeless cats at this time of the year, but the small organization has lost several critical volunteers due to out-of-town moves. That’s why Wild About Cats is seeking volunteers to help feed or foster these cats that could make wonderful, beloved pets.

The group feeds some 20 cats daily in 8 different areas (colonies) in and around Crossville and Fairfield Glade. Training given.

Foster homes are needed as well. Many of these cats could be vet checked, neutered and put up for adoption. We need  foster parents to care for them during this process.

Helping these cats is rewarding work for any animal lover. The care and affection you give these cats until a forever home is found is priceless. The satisfaction from successfully adopting out one of the fosters often lasts longer than expected. We hear from some of the “new” pet parents months and even years later that their rescued cat is a cherished member of their family.

Wild About Cats could also use volunteers to assist in fund-raising activities. For more information or to make a much needed and appreciated donation, please contact the group at WildAboutCatsTN@gmail or call Carol at 931-456-0096 and leave a message.

Memory Loss Care

The Memory Loss Care Group always meets on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be at 11 A.M., Thursday, June 14th.

Due to sports camp activity at FFG First Baptist Church this month, we will be meeting at the Fairfield Glade     Multi-purpose building – Library, 455 Lakeview Drive, Room C located on the lower level of the building.

Larry Renaud, Pharmacist at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Crossville, will be our speaker.   This will be the third time Larry has spoken to the Memory Loss Care Group.   He is very knowledgeable on medication, not just side effects but interaction of prescriptions and over the counter medication.   Medication can sometime cause adverse behavior reactions for those affected by dementia.  Larry is a very engaging speaker.  We hope you will join us and benefit from his expertise.

This change of location is for the month of June only.  We are sorry due to the location we cannot accommodate the loved ones for activities as there is not a separate room available.

The purpose of the Memory Loss Care Group is to provide information and support for caregivers.  Whether you are a caregiver, have early memory loss, a concern for a loved one/relative, neighbor or friend affected by dementia; we welcome you to join us as we share and walk this journey.                                                                                                       For additional information please contact Margaret Brant 931-337-9630.

Photography Club and Photo Editing Workshop Groups to Merge

Beginning in June 2018, the Photography and Photo Editing Workshop Groups will merge their monthly meetings into one meeting to be held on the third Thursday of each month.

As more people take digital pictures, photo editing has become a necessary and essential part of producing the final picture.   Since over 95% percent of all pictures taken today are photo edited in some way, it was felt that the two topics should be combined in our meetings.

The meetings will have monthly assignments to take in various categories.  Each member will be asked to bring the original picture taken and then explain the photo editing tools used to produce the final picture.

There will be discussion covering the picture itself and the tools used and why they were used.

Each meeting will include short presentations on photography practices and/or photo editing techniques.  The topics and assignments will be published in advanced to allow enough time for each member to plan and carry out their assignments.  Winning pictures will be determined at the end of each meeting.

The June meeting will be held on June 21 at 1 P.M. in room C of the Fairfield Glade Library.  The categories for June will be Flag Day, Weddings, June Flowers, and Memorial Day activities, Nonmembers are invited to attend for a $3 fee, which entitles you to attend not only the workshop, but also the PC users club June meeting.

If you would like the assignments forwarded to you or have any questions, email them to [email protected] or call Jim Gries at 331-442-9763
