Enduring Entrepreneurs to meet on April 2

The next meeting for “Enduring Entrepreneurs MeetUp” will be Tuesday, April 2 at the Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI).

Bring your own lunch.  Networking with other business owners begins at 11:30 A.M. and the meeting begins at noon.

Vidalia Onion sale

Cumberland Shrine Club is offering again the sale of Vidalia onions as they have each spring for many years.

The proceeds support and maintain a van which provides Cumberland County children transportation to Shriner Hospitals. There is never a charge for the transportation or hospital costs to any family whose child has experienced orthopedic or burn injuries.

A ten pound bag costs ten dollars and contains 70% Jumbos (3” or larger) and 30% Medium (2 1⁄4” to 3”). All onions are pre-ordered and will be delivered the last week in April.

Payment may be made at time of delivery.

 

Dimple Globe Awards Banquet set for April 6

The deadline for obtaining your tickets to the Dimple Globe Awards Banquet on April 6 is fast approaching, so be sure to call and reserve a seat.

Honorees this year are Dorothy Brush, Don Alexander, Paul Wennermark, Lisa and Andy O’Connor, Barbara Thornhill, Dr. Harold and Diana Gustafson-Lowe and High School Students Destinee Dowdy and Robert Uebelacker III.

With  this slate of Honorees who have shown they are making a difference in Cumberland County we are hoping for a big turnout.

Tickets are just $25 per person.  To reserve a seat or a table call the United Fund at 931-484-4082. The banquet will be held at the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center starting at 5 P.M. on Saturday, April 6.

 

Kinseekers to meet

The next meeting for the Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 1 P.M., at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr, Fairfield Glade.

At the next meeting Mark Pfaffenroth, Kathy Munn & Debbie Judd will discuss German Migration and Research.

Rummage Sale slated

On April 12, 2013 from 9 to 11 A.M., CCW of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 7501 Peavine Road in Fairfield Glade will hold its annual Rummage Sale.

There will be a wide assortment of men’s and women’s clothing, children’s items, along with furniture, household items, books, puzzles, holiday items, small appliances, golf and outdoor equipment, our boutique and many other miscellaneous treasures.

 

Bible study tech spring session is offered

Kelly Minter will be the DVD instructor for our spring session, “Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break.” Nehemiah is a seven-week study that includes seven video sessions and real life ways to put feet to your faith.

Are you ready to learn from Nehemiah and move you in compassion to be the hands and feet of Jesus?  If so join them April 8 – June 10, 2013, 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

County’s Republican Women’s Club to meet

The Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club will have their monthly meeting April 7 at the Republican Headquarters at 5 P.M.

Please try to attend, especially if you are gong to help with their Trash and Treasure Sale on April 18 and 19.

They will be finalizing our plans and organizing the food they will sell there. Be thinking about a dish you can donate….pies, soups, desserts, etc. Remember that all funds we raise will go to their scholarship fund where 1 student from each high school will receive $1,000 toward furthering their education.

 

Elks “All-you-can-eat” Good Friday Fish Fry

The Elks Lodge is serving their famous Fish Fry on Good Friday, March 29, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M.

For this all-inclusive price of $10 per person, you can enjoy “All-you-can-eat” fish and sides of coleslaw, french fries or baked potato and dessert. For the non-fish lover, we offer a single serving of a half baked chicken which includes all side dishes, children 8 years and younger half price.

Neighbors & Newcomers welcome Dr. Bass

Neighbors and Newcomers is proud to have Dr. Bill Bass as their speaker for the March 28th meeting.

The meeting will be held at the CMC Breast Cancer building, second floor. This month’s donations are for the animal shelter, checks should be made payable to AARF.

Doors open at 10:45 A.M. parking is at a  premium so please car pool if possible.

The meal will be chicken and dumplings, salad bar, mixed fruit and apple dumplings. A heartsmart meal will be available The last day to make or cancel reservations is March 23 and you may call Robbie at 456-2790.

 

Glade Garden Club hosting Plant Sale

On April 16, 17, 18, the Fairfield Glade Garden Club will hold its annual Geranium and Huge Fern plant sale. These first three days will take place at the CCHS greenhouses where all plants are grown and cared for by the students.

The plant sale will then move on to the First National Bank of Tennessee on Peavine Road on April 19, in conjunction with their “Shredding Day” Program.

Each of the first four days will run from 8 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. The final day will be held at the Robinhood Park in Fairfield Glade on April 20, starting at 7:30 A.M. and will run until 2 P.M. unless we are sold out.

Volunteer Week

The Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade is joining organizations across the country in celebrating National Volunteer Week April 21-27.

Volunteer Week is set aside each year to recognize volunteers for their contributions. The Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade, plans a Worship Service to honor our volunteers.

Last year, volunteers at Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade, shared an estimated 9,423.75 hours of volunteer work from January through November of 2012. Some of the volunteer opportunities include Individual Services, Group Services, and Organizational Services.

Good Friday Service

Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court, Fairfield Glade, TN, will be having a Good Friday Candlelight service on March 29, 2013, at 7 P.M. The hour long program will feature special music and a focused message from the scriptures on the Crucifixion event. Pastor Moran and several church members will be presenting these scriptures. Community Open House for Vets/spouses

If you are a veteran of any USA war or conflict, you and your family members may be entitled to medical and financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a service to the community, Fairfield Glade Assisted Living will host an Open House on Saturday, April 13 with special guest Richard Kuhn, director of the Veteran Aid Project. This non-governmental agency helps veterans secure benefits to which they are entitled.

The Veteran Aid Project reaches out to all veterans to provide valuable information for veterans and their families. Mr. Kuhn will be available from 1 to 2 P.M. to help veterans and their families determine their eligibility for benefits from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs.

 

Sunday Couples Golf League to begin April 7

Join us and make new friends. Sunday couples golf league will begin on April 7, at Druid Hills Golf Course. Timeshares and singles are most welcome.

They will have a shotgun start  and use a mixed couples best ball format. They play nine holes followed by socializing on the patio. Some go to dinner afterwards. A sign up sheet will be available at Druid Hills every saturday morning by 10 A.M. for the following week.

The sheet will be picked up on Friday morning by 10 A.M. and the pairings will be posted by 10 A.M. Saturday morning for the following day’s play.

Thursday Couples League Starts April 18

Couples, come sign up for a nine-hole scramble using fun formats played Thursdays at Heatherhurst with tee times starting at 3:33 P.M.

This is a social golf group and you need not be a “good” golfer.  After play we have dinner at a local restaurant and award prize money.

The first signup sheet will be posted at Heatherhurst Tuesday, April 9th on the bulletin board located near the restrooms.  It will be removed at 3 P.M. on Sunday the 14th.

The pairings will then be posted on the boards at Heatherhurst, Druid, and Dorchester at noon on Tuesday the 16th for play on Thursday the 18th.

The first tee time each week is 3:33 P.M..  Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your assigned tee time.

Volunteer Coin Club

to Meet April 9

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 P.M.

Workshop scheduled

Have you always wanted to scrapbook but didn’t know where to start? Are you already an experienced scrapbooker looking for a fun productive day? This is the workshop you!

You will complete an entire 8×8 album in one day using quality Stampin’ Up products. All you need is 8 pictures to get started. The workshop is Saturday, April 6 from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Legends Restaurant-Westchester room. The $50 registration fee covers all supplies and is due by April 1. Class size is limited. Vendors wanted

Home and Garden Vendors are being sought for the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club 4th Annual Spring Marketplace/Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.

Presented in conjunction with the 5th Annual Garden/Kitchen Tour on Saturday, May 18, the show is certain to attract many visitors.

Display and booth space will be both inside and outside at The Village Green Mall, in the center of Fairfield Glade.

Exhibits will be open to the public from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. both days. Vendor fees for the show are $65 per booth space for the two days.  Full details of costs, booth sizes, and an application are available on the club website: wwwffgldiesclub.org. Photo contest slated

The Cumberlalnd County Master Gardeners are having a photo contest to be held in conjunction with the 2013 Spring Flower and Garden Show April 26, 27 and 28.

There are two categories: 1. a photo of gardens or flowers from any public State park of Tennessee, 2. a photo of gardens or flowers from the UT Research and Education Center at 321 Experiment Road.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category. A cash prize will be awarded for a people’s choice (based on popular vote).

The photographs will be judged by three professional photographers.
