Crossville Christian School Annual Golf Tournament

Crossville Christian School Annual Golf Tournament will be held at Bear Trace Golf Course on Saturday, June 16. Entry fee is $60 per player, 4 players to a team. Shotgun start at 1 P.M. Cash prize to the winning team. Free BBQ lunch at 12 noon. Hole in one prize for hole 16, door prizes, free T-shirts, hats, and goodie bags. Sunday Couples golf underway at Druid Hills

Sunday couples golf is in full swing at Druid Hills Golf Course. Come and join them for fun and friendship.

We play every Sunday from April 1 through October 31, weather permitting. Timeshares and singles are most welcome.

We begin a shotgun start at 3:15 P.M. and use a mixed couples best ball format, playing nine holes followed by socializing on the patio.

A sign up sheet will be available at Druid Hills G.C. every Saturday morning by 10 A.M. for the following week.

The sheet will be picked up every Friday by 10 A.M, and pairings will be posted on Saturday morning for the next day. Come join us for fun and friendship.

HONORING OUR FALLEN HEROES

The Crossville Upper Cumberland Ladies Club will hold a Memorial Ceremony, to honor and remember, our fallen heroes, on May 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM, at Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy. 127, in Crossville.  The ceremony will include an honor guard and the playing of taps and Amazing Grace.  Our brave military men and women have sacrificed and given their all to guaranty and protect our freedom and liberty. Everyone is invited to attend this ceremony, as true patriots, to show our appreciation and respect to our veterans, by honoring them on this Memorial Day.

In conjunction with the Memorial Day Ceremony, the Crossville Upper Cumberland Ladies Club will be placing American flags on the gravesites of all veterans at the Green Acres Cemetery on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 12:00 PM.  We will be placing approximately 300 flags and we welcome any volunteers who would like to assist us in placing the flags.

 

Volunteer Coin Club to Meet June 12

The Cumberland County Piecemakers Quilt Guild will hold it’s monthly Business Meeting on Wednesday June 6th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the 127 South Senior Center, located on Hwy 127 South in Crossville. CMC Presents CPAP Group Meeting

CMC CPAP Support Group is a free, community based support group where Cumberland County residents affected by Sleep Apnea can meet with respiratory therapist, sleep technologist, and other experts in the field of Sleep Medicine, and have their questions answered. These highly trained professionals are there to help you navigate your treatment plan. So come and join the CMC CPAP Support Group meeting June 14, 2012 @ 6 pm in Conference Center C. The guest speaker at this meeting will be Chris Rose, Account Manager Philips Respironics. The main purpose of this group is to educate the public about Sleep Apnea and to improve better compliance with CPAP.  IT’S DANCE TIME IN HEBBERTSBURG

It isn’t officially summer yet, but, the weather is warm, it stays light late, Saturday nights are for having fun and we have the perfect fun suggestion for you.  The first Saturday of each month (through September), the Hebbertsburg Community Center invites everyone in the area to join them for live music , dancing, home cooked food and family fun from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.   Admittance is only $3 per adult and children 16 and under are free.  All monies collected go toward the upkeep of the Community Center.

On Saturday, June 2, 2012, local favorites, Tom Lawless and The Redeye Express Band will entertain you with a variety of light rock, country and blues…music to get your feet moving, either on the dance floor with your favorite person in your arms, or on the sidelines watching.  When the band takes a break, the line dancing and clogging music takes center stage and you can join in or sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

The Hebbertsburg ladies will be serving delicious, home cooked spaghetti dinners with bread and a drink for only $5, and desserts and additional drinks are just $1 each.  They will also provide the cakes for our ‘fun and famous cakewalks’.  Where else can you win a cake for a $1?

The Community Center is about 10 minutes (5 miles) from the 4-way stop in Fairfield Glade, so, bring family, friends and/or neighbors and come to the Hebbertsburg Community Center dance on Saturday, June 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Any questions… call Carolyn at 707-7837.

 

This year’s  Lake St. George Regatta to be  “VIVA LAS VEGAS!”

Residents of Lake St. George have been busy planning this year’s regatta theme,  “Viva Las Vegas” for Saturday,  June 23 from 3 P.M.  to 7 P.M.    We will all meet at the marina at 3:00 and parade our floating casinos and show boats (pontoons) around the lake until 4:00.   Afterwards, please dock your boat at home and meet at the marina pavilion for games and door prizes, 50/50, and a delicious meal catered by Forte’s Restaurant.  The menu includes mostaccioli and meatballs, baked chicken, vegetable medley, fresh fruit, rolls, dessert and iced tea. Dinner will begin around 5:00. Boys Basketball Camp

The Roane State annual boys basketball camp conducted by Raider Coach Randy Nesbit will be held June 18-22 for boys ages 8-14. The hours will run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.; Friday 9:00 A.M. until noon.

Detailed instruction on proper skill development will be emphasized. Additionally, typical competition will take place in 5 on 5, 3 on 3, and 1 on 1 play. The cost is $115.

“Changing Life from the Inside Out”

Join us for “Changing Life from the Inside Out”, an informal discussion group which meets Mondays from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.  We offer weekly excerpts from notable authors: Henry Cloud, John Townsend, Melody Beattie, Beth Moore, C.S. Lewis, John Eldridge, Peter Buechner, Joyce Meyer, Dr. Billy Graham and Mrs. Ruth Graham as well as other Christian ‘thinkers’. The foundational point of view is based upon Henry Cloud’s work, “The Secrets of God”.  The content sounds serious but the participants make the morning fun and inspirational.  Coffee, tea and pastries are provided.

UPPER CUMBERLAND CHAPTER MOAA

The annual picnic of the Upper Cumberland Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will be on Monday, June 4, at Lake St. George Marina.  Social hour begins at 11 A.M. and a buffet lunch will be served at 12 noon. Gus Gocella of the Honor Flight program is guest speaker.   The buffet, catered by Big Boy’s BBQ, includes brisket, bacon-wrapped chicken breast,  mac ‘n cheese, cole slaw, green beans w/ onions and bacon, and fruit salad.   Cost is $10 per person.   For reservations call the Sec-Treasurer at  931-707-0928 no later than May 28.  In addition to members and their spouses, members of the community who are interested in the activities of the chapter are most welcome.

National Nursing Home Week to be celebrated May 13-19

Crossville, Tennessee, May 1, 2012- The Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade is celebrating National Nursing Home Week, May 13-19, with the theme: “Faces of Wisdom, Blessed by Faith.”

National Nursing Home Week is set aside each year to honor residents of long-term care centers, their families and those who work in long-term care.  The American Health Care Association established the week in 1967.

The Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade plans to hold a worship service on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 9:30 A.M.

“We are proud to be part of this special week,” says Anne Harrington, Campus Administrator. “And we give thanks for the lives of those we touch each day through the care and services we provide.”

The Good Samaritan Society, Fairfield Glade, is part of The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, a not-for-profit organization that owns and operates more than 240 rehabilitation and skilled care centers, and senior living communities in 24 states.  The Good Samaritan Society’s mission is to share God’s love in word and deed by providing shelter and supportive services to older persons and others in need, believing that “In Christ’s Love, Everyone Is Someone.”

Marathon Pinochle Picnic Friday, June 8

The Marathon Pinochle group will meet for an end of season picnic at St. George Marina. Food catered by Big Boy’s BBQ for its BBQ plates and loaded baked potatoes!

Cost is $9.75 per person. (Friends and potential new players also welcome.)

“BYOB” although iced tea will be served with the meal.

A “Pinochle Tournament” will begin at 4 P.M. at $1 per player with prizes warded to top scorers. Participation in the games are NOT required.

Food will be served at 5 P.M. followed by a short meeting (’11-’12 “winnings” will be distributed) and the finish of the tournament.

Please write down your name, phone number, the number attending in your party, preference of sandwich plate (chicken or pulled pork) or loaded baked potato (chicken or pulled pork) as well as side dishes (baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and banana pudding), and whether or not you will be participating in the tournament. Elks Lodge Taco Night

The Elks Lodge offers a Taco Night once a month, this month it falls on May 18. Serving from 5-7 P.M. You can enjoy 2 tacos made special by “Taco Bill” and his crew for $3.  Yes you can order more than two!   You can even call for take outs, just call ahead to give us time to get them ready.

Lynne Baker to speak FFG Garden Club Meeting

Design Specialist and Master Gardener, Lynne Baker, will be sharing her latest presentation on shrubs and trees called “Color Me Easy” at this month’s Garden Club meeting.  Bring a friend and join us as Lynne shares some of her secrets that will surely add beauty to your garden with minimal effort. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. Spring Marketplace returns in near future 

       The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Third Annual Spring Marketplace Home and Garden Show is fast approaching.

Spring has sprung and the Village Green Mall in Fairfield Glade will come alive with visions of spring and summer on May 18 and 19.  Vendors will turn the mall into a shopping paradise both inside and out for those special items for your home.

A huge variety of hanging baskets, planters, annuals, hostas, perennials and garden statuary, along with indoor and outdoor furniture, will be available for viewing and purchase from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. on both days.

Still more craftsmen will be on hand providing ideas for that next remodel, assist with trouble spots such as problem gutters, pest control, flooring and other home improvement projects.

The ever popular Silver Lady will be present, a Kettle Korn trailer will be in the parking lot and still more vendors inside and out with a wide variety of interesting items.

Held in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Garden and Kitchen Tour on Saturday, May 19 (only) the week-end promises something for all.  Tickets and maps for the tour are $12 and may be secured inside the mall from 9 until 11 A.M.

All proceeds from this combined event go directly to the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Scholarship Fund for students in Cumberland County.

 

Glade Fantastic Quilt Guild to meet May 18

The Fairfield Glade Fantastic Quilt Guild will host its May monthly meeting on Friday, May 18, from 9-11 A.M. at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.

The meeting will feature a “make and take” project for all participants, to be led by Co-Education Directors, Dottie Robbins and Kathi Krambeck.

The project is designed to teach members a few new techniques as well as provide all with a chance to enjoyably work together.

Members are asked to sign-up for the meeting (if they haven’t already done so) to ensure enough materials are ready for all.

Guests are always welcome and enough materials will be available to accommodate guests. Participants are asked to bring their basic sewing supplies to the meeting.  No sewing machines are required as this is a hand project.

The cooperative workshop will be preceded by the usual monthly business meeting and will conclude with member show and tell.  The fat quarter color for the month of May is yellow.

In addition to the regular membership meeting held on the third Friday of each month, members of the Guild gather the morning of each fourth Friday of the month for a Stitch-In.

At the fourth Friday Stitch-In members work on service projects as well as spend time working toward specific personal quilting goals.

PPCUG to discuss “All About GPS”

The Plateau PC Users Group will meet at 6 P.M. on Monday May 21, at the 127 South Senior Center, located at 1460 South Main Street in Crossville.

The program topic is: “What is GPS: Where did it come from, How does it work, What can it do for me?”

“GPS” is in our lives in many places. Alan Baker,  PPCUG treasurer, will review what BPS is, the history of GPS, how it works, types of GPS receivers, the types of information that can be obtained from GPS receivers, and GPS tracking devices and services.

A handout will provide online resources for learning more about GPS and GPS devices.

The meeting begins with questions/answers at 6 P.M.

The Q/A session is followed by a short business meeting, with the main presentation (speaker) beginning at 7 P.M.

The Plateau PC Users Group meets the third Monday of the month at the 127 South Senior Center. PPCUG is dedicated to helping its members and the community better enjoy the use of personal computers.

Visitors are always welcome at our meetings and there is no charge for attendance.

Spring Author Luncheon

Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization raising funds for the Art Circle Library of Crossville, will be having their Spring Author Luncheon on May 24 at 10:45 A.M. in the Cumberland Room.

The group will hear Stephen Lyn Bales, author of Ghost Birds, and Natural Histories: Stories from the Tennessee Valley.

Bales also has written a nature column in the Farragut Press for the past 11 years and recently published articles in the Tennessee Conservationist & the Smithsonian.

The luncheon will be   catered by Forte’s on the Square, price of tickets are $15.00, including tip and door prizes will be given away.

 Stretch & Tone with Nan

Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church is again offering a 10-week series of Stretch & Tone Classes.

This fitness program is designed for men and women who, for one reason or another, no longer want to exercise on the floor, but still desire a full body workout.

Classes will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall every Monday and Thursday morning, 10 to 11 A.M., April 23, through June 28.  Prior sign-up is not necessary, but plan to arrive about 15 minutes before the first class, in order to register.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a hand towel with you, as well as a $1 contribution to help defray church expenses.  Light hand weights will be available for use during class, for those who cannot bring their own.

Vendors needed for Ladies Club Home and Garden Show

The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club is hosting its Third Annual Spring Marketplace Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, in Fairfield Glade.

The resort community of 8,000 full-time residents and hundreds of time share visitors, offers a unique opportunity for vendors to present their wares and expertise to a select group of homeowners.

The show will be located both inside and outside at the Village Green Mall, in the center of the community, at 126 Stonehenge Drive.

Exhibits will be open to the public from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. both days and set up will be the afternoon of May 17 and the morning of May 18.

Entry fee for the two-day Spring Marketplace is $65 per booth.

Booth sizes are:  6 x 12 feet (inside) and 10 x 12 (outside).  Interested vendors may contact Marsha Mellert (931-456-4680) for booth space and information.

Golf Fundraiser set

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will hold its 2012 Golf Fundraiser on Friday, July 27 at Heatherhurst Golf (Brae) Course.

The event will begin with a 7:30 A.M. shotgun start and will cost $75 per person which includes golf, cart and luncheon to follow.

The format will be 2 net best balls. Teams: 4 man/women/mixed.
