NARFE meeting set

NARFE (the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees)is holding a meeting on Tuesday, May 8, at the Art Circle Public Library.  Our Speaker will be Suzanne Smith, Election Commission Director for Cumberland County.  She will speak about the upcoming election(s) and the operation of her Department.

The Chapter 1719 meeting will begin at 1 P.M. with Chester Bush,Predident, opening the meeting. Mr. Bush asks all individuals new to Chapter 1719 to contact him at the meeting so he can introduce you to the existing members.

Glade Fantastic Quilt Guild to meet May 18

The Fairfield Glade Fantastic Quilt Guild will host its May monthly meeting on Friday, May 18, from 9-11 A.M. at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.

The meeting will feature a “make and take” project for all participants, to be led by Co-Education Directors, Dottie Robbins and Kathi Krambeck.

The project is designed to teach members a few new techniques as well as provide all with a chance to enjoyably work together.

Members are asked to sign-up for the meeting (if they haven’t already done so) to ensure enough materials are ready for all.

Guests are always welcome and enough materials will be available to accommodate guests. Participants are asked to bring their basic sewing supplies to the meeting.  No sewing machines are required as this is a hand project.

The cooperative workshop will be preceded by the usual monthly business meeting and will conclude with member show and tell.  The fat quarter color for the month of May is yellow.

In addition to the regular membership meeting held on the third Friday of each month, members of the Guild gather the morning of each fourth Friday of the month for a Stitch-In.

At the fourth Friday Stitch-In members work on service projects as well as spend time working toward specific personal quilting goals.

Korean vets to meet

The monthly meeting of Plateau Chapter #297, KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION, will be held Wednesday, May 9, 1 P.M., at the Fairfield Glade Community & Conference Center on Stonhenge.

Retired or honorably discharged military personnel are always welcome to sit in on our meetings and subsequently request membership.  Membership is available to those who have actively served in the military during the Korean War, June 1950 to July 1953, or in the area of Korea since July 1953.

 

PPCUG to discuss “All About GPS”

The Plateau PC Users Group will meet at 6 P.M. on Monday May 21, at the 127 South Senior Center, located at 1460 South Main Street in Crossville.  

The program topic is: “What is GPS: Where did it come from, How does it work, What can it do for me?”

“GPS” is in our lives in many places. Alan Baker,  PPCUG treasurer, will review what BPS is, the history of GPS, how it works, types of GPS receivers, the types of information that can be obtained from GPS receivers, and GPS tracking devices and services.

A handout will provide online resources for learning more about GPS and GPS devices.

The meeting begins with questions/answers at 6 P.M.

The Q/A session is followed by a short business meeting, with the main presentation (speaker) beginning at 7 P.M.

The Plateau PC Users Group meets the third Monday of the month at the 127 South Senior Center. PPCUG is dedicated to helping its members and the community better enjoy the use of personal computers.

Visitors are always welcome at our meetings and there is no charge for attendance.

Volunteer Coin Club to meet on May 8

The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 P.M.

The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South). Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Spring Author Luncheon

Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization raising funds for the Art Circle Library of Crossville, will be having their Spring Author Luncheon on May 24 at 10:45 A.M. in the Cumberland Room.

The group will hear Stephen Lyn Bales, author of Ghost Birds, and Natural Histories: Stories from the Tennessee Valley.

Bales also has written a nature column in the Farragut Press for the past 11 years and recently published articles in the Tennessee Conservationist & the Smithsonian.

The luncheon will be   catered by Forte’s on the Square, price of tickets are $15.00, including tip and door prizes will be given away.

The event is open to the public and the last day to purchase tickets is May 15.  For information call the Library at 931-484-6790.

 

Elks to hosts Spaghetti & Meat Ball Dinner

The Elks Lodge is  serving its popular Spaghetti and meatball dinner on May 4 from 5 P.M. – 7 P.M.

This all inclusive dinner includes salad, garlic bread and dessert for only $9 per person! As always children 8 years  and younger hare half price.

The Elks Lodge is open to male and females aged 21 and over, who are American citizens and believe in God.  If you would like additional information about the Elks Lodge, call the Lodge 931-484-0150 between 12 P.M. and 9 P.M.

Please keep in mind we have limited parking so if you can car pool that would be greatly appreciated.

They are located at 1145 Genesis Rd. which is about half a mile south of I-40. Lodge hours are 12 to 9 P.M. Monday through Saturday.

The Elks Lodge is always open to its members and their guests.

 

Rib Dinner scheduled

The Elks Lodge is offering a half rack of ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert for $12 per person on May 12 from 5 to 7 P.M..

Reservations are requested so call the Lodge at 931-484-0150 and make your reservation.

The Lodge is open to its members and their guests and is located at 1145 Genesis Road which is about half a mile south of I-40. Lodge hours are 12-9 P.M. Monday through Saturday.     Senior Pastor, Leonard Markham, would like to invite all Educators to be a special guest during the 9 A.M. service at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church, 5160 Peavine Road on Sunday, May 6.

They want to honor you as an educator in Cumberland County and affirm your profound influence in the lives of the children whom you serve each day.

They are setting aside one Sunday in the year to say, “Thank You” to the faculty, staff, administrators and students in the schools where our children attend.

Kinseekers meeting

    The KINSEEKERS at Fairfield Glade will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 3, at 1 P.M. at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr, in Fairfield Glade.

At the next meeting, they will have Cumberland County Archives curator, Joyce Rorabaugh speak to us about being a census detective. This topic has perfect timing since the 1940 census was just released on April 2! So, come to the meeting and learn how to find your ancestors by using the US census.

All visitors are welcome to attend this meeting and all KINSEEKERS meetings. They meet the first Thursday of every month.

 

Tuesday Night Couples League set to begin

Tuesday, May 3 is opening day for the Dorchester Couples Golf League.

They will play straight tee times in May starting at 3:33 P.M. to accommodate heavy league play and Timeshares, but starting on June 1, they will play a shotgun start at 4:30 P.M.

Various 9-hole scramble formats will be used, including the infamous “Jelly Bean” and “Spaghetti” Open.

No weekly commitment is required. Just sign up for the week(s) you want to play. Sheets will be posted each Wednesday at Dorchester and Druid.

Sign up by Friday afternoon and the committee will do the rest. Tee times and pairings will be posted at Dorchester and Druid on Sunday

If you have a 9-hole handicap, please indicate it next to your name on the sign-up sheet. You don’t have one? No problem. You’re welcome to play anyway!

After league play, we’ll meet up for dinner and HUGE prizes at different local restaurants and we’re open for ideas for places to try.

Bling Sale slated

You will certainly want to attend the Friends of the Library’s first 2012 “Bling Sale” of costume jewelry on Saturday, May 5 from 9 A.M. until 2 P.M.

These events are two grand opportunities to support your community library and gather genuine bargains in the process.

The Friends of the Library (FOL) thank you for recycling books and costume jewelry to support purchases of the latest and greatest books available.

They have book drops available for your recycled books at the Library and at Fairfield Glade’s Village Green Mall.

There are “Bling Boxes” for recycled costume jewelry at the library, in Fairfield Glade at Village Green Mall within the Fairfield Beauty Shoppe, and in Tansi at the P.O.A.

 

Sunday Couples golf underway at Druid Hills

Sunday couples golf is in full swing at Druid Hills Golf Course. Come and join them for fun and friendship.

They play every Sunday from April 1 through October 31, weather permitting. Timeshares and singles are most welcome.

They begin at 1:27 P.M. and use a mixed couples best ball format, playing nine holes followed by socializing on the patio.

A sign up sheet will be available at Druid Hills G.C. every Saturday morning by 10 A.M. for the following week.

The sheet will be picked up every Friday  by 10 A.M, and pairings will be posted on Saturday morning for the next day.

Meet with ‘SAM’

The ‘Sam’ (Single Adult Ministries) Group meets every Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 A.M. in the Library (first entrance) of Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court, Fairfield Glade.

Mornings, with no one sitting across from you, can be the loneliest time of the day for singles.

So, if you’re an area single 25 or older and not in a live-in relationship, come when you can and leave when you have to.

They have coffee mugs and cups, or you can bring your favorite one.

They’ll provide the coffee and tea … you provide the company!

 Stretch & Tone with Nan

Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church is again offering a 10-week series of Stretch & Tone Classes.

This fitness program is designed for men and women who, for one reason or another, no longer want to exercise on the floor, but still desire a full body workout.

Classes will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall every Monday and Thursday morning, 10 to 11 A.M., April 23, through June 28.  Prior sign-up is not necessary, but plan to arrive about 15 minutes before the first class, in order to register.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a hand towel with you, as well as a $1 contribution to help defray church expenses.  Light hand weights will be available for use during class, for those who cannot bring their own.

Vendors needed for Ladies Club Home and Garden Show

The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club is hosting its Third Annual Spring Marketplace Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, in Fairfield Glade.

The resort community of 8,000 full-time residents and hundreds of time share visitors, offers a unique opportunity for vendors to present their wares and expertise to a select group of homeowners.

The show will be located both inside and outside at the Village Green Mall, in the center of the community, at 126 Stonehenge Drive.

Exhibits will be open to the public from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. both days and set up will be the afternoon of May 17 and the morning of May 18.

Entry fee for the two-day Spring Marketplace is $65 per booth.

Booth sizes are:  6 x 12 feet (inside) and 10 x 12 (outside).  Interested vendors may contact Marsha Mellert (931-456-4680) for booth space and information.

Golf Fundraiser set

The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will hold its 2012 Golf Fundraiser on Friday, July 27 at Heatherhurst Golf (Brae) Course.

The event will begin with a 7:30 A.M. shotgun start and will cost $75 per person which includes golf, cart and luncheon to follow.

The format will be 2 net best balls. Teams: 4 man/women/mixed.
