Volunteers needed for AARP Tax Aide program

Each year the April 15th deadline for filing tax returns involves thousands of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers.

Nationally, AARP TaxAide personnel have been providing free tax assistance services since 1968 and locally, in Cumberland County, for over 15 years.

These volunteers, trained and certified with the cooperation of the Internal Revenue Service, work at locations in Pleasant Hill, Tansi, Jamestown, Fairfield Glade and Crossville.

This past year, these sites helped more than 2,000 taxpayers

New volunteers are always needed.  Previous experience in tax return preparation is not necessary; training classes are held in January for both the tax laws and the computer software used to prepare the returns.

If you would like to be involved but aren’t sure if you want to prepare returns, volunteers are also needed to help with greeting clients and organizing the paperwork.

For more information about the program or to become part of the team that provides this valuable service, call 456-4212.
