Friends of the Library is in need of books
Our wet non-summer is over and fall is here. That means it is time for FALL CLEANING! As you go about getting rid of your unwanted summer items, check your bookshelves.
As you clean shelves and closets keep your unwanted books for the Circle of Friends Book Store.
It is located in the Art Circle Public Library between the recently reopened Café and the elevator.
Donation boxes are located in back of the library and by the door nearest the bank in the Fairfield Glade Village Green mall. If you have a large number of boxes call 456-1935 and someone will pick them up.
The bookstore provides over $1,000 each month for new library book purchases. It is staffed by FOL members who also sort and arrange the books.
They encourage you to visit the book store and see our supply of fiction (hard cover and paperback) and non-fiction, including many cookbooks.
Hardcover books are sold for $1.00 and paperbacks for $.50. All children’s books are $.50. They have a special section for very recent books at a slightly higher price.
They also hold regular book sales at even lower prices. The next one is coming up soon on Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26, beginning at 9 A.M.
Saturday will feature their famous bag sale during which you can fill a plastic grocery sack with books for $1.00!
Glade Hospice Auxiliary to hold meeting Oct. 7
The Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly membership meeting on Monday, October 7, at 2:30 P.M. at the Social Hall of the St. Francis Catholic Church , at 7503 Peavine Road.
The business portion of the meeting will begin promptly at 3 P.M. but all current and new members are encouraged to arrive by 2:30 P.M. for a brief social with refreshments.
Guests are especially welcomed to attend the meeting and social to learn about the fund-raising mission and work of the Hospice Auxiliary.
The Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary raises funds for Hospice of Cumberland County, specifically for the on-going operation of Cumberland House.
Cumberland House is a six bed end-of-life facility which accommodates all persons without consideration of ability to pay.
The non-denominational fund-raising group welcomes all members of the community interested in supporting the provision of quality end-of-life care to patients and bereavement care to their families. Women’s Fall Bible Study is scheduled
A new study from Priscilla Shirer, “Gideon- Your Weakness, God’s Strength,” will start Tuesday, October 15 at 6 P.M. and Wednesday, October 16 at 9 A.M.
This study will encourage you to recognize your weakness as the key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life.
This seven- week study will be held at Fairfield Glade First Baptist Church (by Food City).

Volunteer Coin Club will meet on Oct. 8
The Volunteer Coin Club of Crossville will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30 PM.
The meetings are held at the 127 Senior Center located at 1460 South Main Street (Highway 127 South). Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Kids Christmas Inc. hosting annual Gala
Kids Christmas Inc is having their annual Gala at the Fairfield Glade Community Club on October 12, starting at 6 P.M.
Wonderful prizes, food and entertainment will be featured. Tickets are $100 each, admits two people, cocktail attire preferred.
All proceeds go to needy children here in Cumberland County.

Charity Ride scheduled
Tommy’s Motorsports is sponsoring a Charity Ride on October 12 which will benefit the United Fund of Cumberland County.
A $10 donation per person will help the United Fund provide funding for 37 non-profit organizations in Crossville and Cumberland County. There will be prizes, food and more.
Registration begins at 9 A.M. and the ride begins at 10 A.M. leaving from Tommy’s Motorsports on 550 Crabtree Rd in Crossville, TN. To pre-register or for more information call 931-484-4082.

Glade Dog Park to host animal blessing
The Fairfield Glade Dog Park Association will host a Blessing of the Animals on Friday, October 4 from 4 to 5 P.M. The event will be held at the Dog Park, located off Catoosa Blvd.
Three local clergy will officiate. They are The Reverend Father John Dowling of St. Francis of Assisi Church, The Reverend Jay Archer of United Methodist Church, and The Reverend Jenny Barnes of Christ Lutheran Church. The Blessing is non-denominational. All are welcome.
There is no charge, however, free-will donations will be gratefully accepted. The Fairfield Glade Dog Park is maintained by volunteers and with donations from local dog lovers.
October 4 is recognized by Catholics as St. Francis of Assisi’s holy day. St Francis is considered to be the patron saint of animals.
Dogs MUST be kept on a short leash or in a carrier. Cats and other small animals are welcome, but must be kept in carriers.
To enter the Dog Park from Peavine Rd., turn onto Catoosa Blvd., then turn onto Maintenance Dr. and following the road to the right. Parking is available across from the Dog Park.
In the event of inclement weather, the Blessing will be rescheduled to a later date.

Hospice Auxiliary Hosts Fashion Faire set
If you’ve got a passion for fashion, you won’t want to miss the 4th annual fashion faire hosted by the Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary!
“Purs…ue Fashion” will be held on Tuesday, October 22, between the hours of 11 A.M. and 3 P.M.
New and exciting features have been added this year, including a new venue (the Fairfield Glade Community Church, on Snead Drive), a delicious lunch catered by 5th Street Marketplace Café and live music (provided by Fairfield “newcomer” Dennis Hill) from the time the doors open until the fashion show begins.
Additionally, your ticket price of $25 will include all available door prize tickets. Jacqueline’s Boutique will be providing the beautiful fashions and accessories, including some gorgeous new purses to compliment the stunning ensembles.

Free move slated at Rocky Top 10 theatre
The Cumberland County Film Society and the Rocky Top 10 theater are pleased to invite you to the FREE showing of Robot and Frank on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 P.M.
The Film Society is a non-profit membership organization. This movie is the second in a fall season of five films. Five additional movies were shown this spring. Membership is $10/person/year.
Only two of the movies this fall will be free to all comers on Tuesday evenings at 7; the next is on Oct. 8th. The regular features for members are shown at 1 P.M. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, every two weeks.
You may join the Film Society for the remaining fall season for $10/person before the film on Tuesday the 24th or Thursday the 26th if you come to the Rocky Top by 12:30 P.M. Doors open at 12:15. Some of the movies have a separate theater for the hard of hearing with subtitles.
Holiday craft fair set
A holiday craft fair is scheduled for Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11, from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the Community Complex in the large exhibit building located at the Fairgrounds in Crossville.

Golf spots going fast
The P.O.E.T.S. Golf Club of Fairfield Glade would like to remind all golfers that the Fall invitational is being held on October 10th, 11th, and 12th at the Heatherhurst golf courses.
The field is limited to 56 teams and currently only 16 posts remain open.
The final date of acceptance of entries has been set as September 22.

Monthenders Bowling League begins Sept. 29
The Monthenders Bowling League will begin their 2013-14 season on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Plateau Lanes.
Currently, the league is in need of new teams. These teams must consist of two men and two women. Any person that is interested in joining the league should contact Bob Olds at 931-707-7980 as soon as possible.
A short meeting will be held at 1 P.M. on September 29 prior to bowling so that league rules and other items can be discussed and voted on.

The Elks hosting Night at the Copa dinner show
The Elks will host its Angel Tree Dinner Show — “Night at the Copa” — on Oct. 4 & 5.
The cost is $12 per person, prepaid tickets only. The show begins promptly at 5 P.M.
Dinner will be served during intermission.
Menu is roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes, bread stuffing, gravy, veggie and dessert.
The “Elk Performers” are at it again, doing another skit to support the Angel Tree Christmas program at the Elks Lodge. You will see performances from Barry Manalow, Tom Jones, Sonny & Cher and more.
Tickets are now available at the Lodge.

Time for Paws looking for items for store
A Time 4 Paws No Kill animal welfare organization is looking for lightly used items such as household electronics, clothing, furniture, toys, sports/health equipment etc., to be donated for their new thrift store that opened Sept. 23.
All donations are tax deductible and may be dropped off at 463 Old Jamestown Hwy (Adoption Center) until further notice and 100% of profits benefit their animals and their many programs.

Is Someone you care for affected by mental illness?
Classes are being offered for family and friends of individuals with a major mental illness on eight consecutive Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 P.M., beginning on Sept. 18 and ending on Nov. 6.
With Hope in Mind is support and education for family members and friends who have a loved one with bipolar disorder (manic depression), major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and/or other disorders.
The With Hope in Mind is a FREE eight-session course provided by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Cumberland Plateau that provides the practical and emotional support you need as a caretaker of someone with a mental illness or disorder.

Kinseekers to meet
The next meeting for the Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 1 P.M., at the Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Dr.
At their next meeting Chris Sikorski will give a presentation on DNA.
Their meetings are open to all who are interested in genealogy.
The Kinseekers meet only once a month, the first Thursday of every month.

Wags and Whiskers golf outing slated
The 10th annual Sally Schrader Golf Outing to benefit Wags And Whiskers will be played on the Crag course at Heatherhurst on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Please help Wags And Whiskers raise funds to continue mission to reduce the intake rate of unwanted cats and dogs in our community. WAW provides spay/neuter education, facilitation and financial aid. WAW’s goal is to facilitate 1,210 surgeries in 2013.

Vendors are needed for a two-day Holiday Craft Show sponsored by the Cumberland County Republican Women’s Club.
It is open to all and will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Friday Oct. 11, from 9 A.M. till 4 P.M. at the Community Complex in the large exhibit building located at the Fairgrounds in Crossville.
All items must be handmade. Spaces are located in heated hall and are approximately 6’ x 8’. Electricity is available to a limited number of spaces and one 8’ table and 2 chairs will be provided for each space. Cost per vendor booth is $30 for both days.
Set up for the event will be from 7 to 9 A.M. on day of show.

Medicare Class set
Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare? The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is hosting classes for those entering the confusing world of Medicare on September 25 from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M. at Art Circle Library in Crossville.
The class will consist of training on Parts A, B, C & D, as well as Medigap policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud. SHIP is a federally funded program administered locally through the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging & Disability and provides free and objective counseling to all Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers.
