Volunteers needed

Have you always done your own taxes?  Are you looking for a way to give back to your community?

Would you enjoy working with a great group of people who work at the six AARP Tax-Aide sites in our district to provide free tax services to our community.

In recent years, the Affordable Care Act has added to the complexity of completing even basic tax returns for working people and Congress has done nothing to make things any easier.

Last year, our team of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers completed over 2500 returns, federal and state, and assisted many more people to determine their need to file.

Training classes are held in January to review current tax laws and explain the computer software used to prepare the returns.  New volunteers have experienced counselors as training partners and can begin their tax preparation work with basic returns. Additionally, every return is reviewed by a second counselor before it is e-filed.

You can go to the AARP website and click on ‘Volunteer’ to sign up for more information to be sent to you or you can call our district coordinator, Robert Ellis, at 931-484-2064.

Jeff Long and Thrivent Financial invite you to a special screening of “Martin Luther; The Idea That Changed The World”. It is the perfect outreach opportunity… a chance to invite friends and neighbors to an event in a community setting. This entertaining new film follows the great adventure story of Luther’s life, packed with political intrigue, kidnappings, and life-or-death showdowns.

At the same time, it’s a story about the most important questions of life, including “Who am I?” “What is my purpose” and “How do I get right with God?” The only place you can see the film is in the theater on the day of this special event.

This is the first time in more than 60 years that there has been a feature-length film about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Filmed in historic locations across Europe, this movie brings Luther’s story to life with exquisite attention to detail. It’s a chance to strengthen your faith by revisiting the birth of Protestant Reformation, and to share that experience with others.

Check in begins at 3:15. Following a short presentation at 3:50, the movie will begin at 4 o’clock. IMPORTANT: All tickets must be reserved in advance. Tickets can be reserved at a special web site set up for the screening: http://bit.ly/2ucC53v – If you would rather not purchase tickets online, you can reserve tickets through our community contact: Linda at (931)287-0300.
