The Fairfield Glade Fire Department held its 3rd monthly L.O.F.T. (Learn & Observe Firefighter Training ) session on August 18th at the Catoosa training grounds. FG residents shuttled by bus learned about fire hydrant flow testing, color coding of hydrant domes related to varying pressures.
They were instructed on all aspects of fire engine vehicles including water pumping, guages, hoses, apparatus, siren/lights procedures required by law.
The residents then had a hands-on opportunity to don firefighter gear experiencing the weight of gear, They also learned the origin of ‘turnout ‘ gear and ‘bunker’ gear terms.
Firefighters participated in ‘cross training’ for the August session with practice in ladder work as well as SCBA usage.
Residents went inside the training building experiencing movement and procedures in a dark area and use of the thermal imaging camera (TIC )
FG residents also heard a presentation of the safety officer role and duties at a fire scene. The two hour plus program concluded with a Q.& A. session from Chief Bobby Smith.
FG residents were given an anonymous evaluation form and the following were the comments :
