Glade hiking group to tackle final trek
By DON HAZEL
For The Vista
Fairfield Glade hikers have planned their last hike of the season and chili cook off this Friday, November 22.
The group will hike the newest trail in Fairfield Glade … the complete North Trail. Many of you have hiked the 2-mile North trail completed last year, but now all can do the full 4.2 mile loop.
The new section behind the Good Samaritan and on down to the parking lot is even more beautiful than the original North Trail. They will cross a 70-foot bridge, see lots of rock outcroppings and traverse Yoga Rocks and Rock Canyon. This is one of the nicest trails in East Tennessee and it is right here in our own backyard.
After the hike the group will meet at the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church for our annual end of hiking season chili cook off. You can sign up for both the hike and the chili cook off at the bulletin board across from the Fairfield Glade Post Office or call Evelyn or Elliott Kornriech at 287-0097 for the chili cook off sign up.
Contact Roger or Mary Listenberger at 456-9599 for hike information.
Difficulty. Easy. At 4.2 miles this hike falls into the range of easy. But there are some elevation changes that will catch your attention. They will take it slow enough on the uphills so you aren’t too tired to eat chili at the cook-off following the hike.
If you have hiked with us during the year you are welcome to the chili cook off and welcome to bring a non-hiking spouse or friend.
Hiking has risks and safety is a high priority on every outing. Hazards include uneven trails, drop-offs, slippery rocks, stream crossings, wildlife encounters, auto accidents, and more.
The hiking group assumes no collective or individual liability for any mishaps. Hiking is at your own risk. Boots are highly recommended.
You are responsible for your own safety during the hike.
There is a sheet on the bulletin board across from the Fairfield Glade Post Office for people to sign up for the hike. The group will depart from the parking lot closest to the 4-way stop sign in Fairfield Glade at the corner of Peavine and Stonehenge. Please be there between 7:30 A.M. and 7:45 A.M. to receive information and form carpools. The group will leave at 8 A.M. SHARP.
For more information please call the leaders of the hike, Mary or Roger Listenberger at 456-9599. Please check out the Fairfield Glade hiking website by going to Google and typing in FFG Hiking.
