For The Vista
The year-long fund raising efforts by members of the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club has a happy conclusion.
At the June 5th meeting, $23,000 will be distributed to 19 Cumberland County scholarship recipients! Every one of the 565 members as well as those who traveled with the Ladies Club, sponsored or bought a ticket to an event, or purchased something at a function contributed to this stupendous effort.
Co-Chairs, Sara Flohr and Barbara Storer, reported that of the 19 awards, three are renewals, six are 2013 Stone Mountain HS graduates, five are 2013 graduates of Cumberland County HS, and one is from the Phoenix School. The remaining four are young adults, two of whom attend Roane State Community College and two are students at Tennessee Technology Center/Crossville.
Members will have the opportunity to meet and hear from these outstanding students and know that their efforts are appreciated.
President, Viva Bosland, has invited Marilyn Garlick, previous chair of the Scholarship Committee, to give the invocation. Leading the Pledge of Allegiance will be veteran, Joe Young, President of Cumberland County Bank, which is a major sponsor of the FGLC. Jay Elam and Cameron Sexton, also in management positions at the bank, will accompany him.
There will be no in-gathering of items for the Service Committee; however they will be collecting hotel toiletries and Box Topsfor Education. Co-Chairs, Phyllis Betz and Linda Poland, expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the monthly projects during the club year.
Rosemary Stuckmann, Travel Chair, reports that over half of the cabins on the French River Cruise next spring (March 26 through April 7, 2014) have been reserved. You asked for it! Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail is on the calendar for April 8-11, 2014. This delightful 3-day trip to the Bardstown and Lexington area has something for everyone – and several tastings also.
If you can’t wait to get away, check out the just announced ‘Gone with the Wind’ trip to Atlanta this fall. Brochures and information for these and other trips will be available at the Travel Table.
Though this will be the final meeting of the 2012-2013 club year, Karen Boyer, Ways and Means Chair, asks you to remember the Book, Bake and Bargainza Sale in October as you do some spring cleaning. There is a book drop in the Village Green Mall across from Kroger where anyone may deposit books during the summer for the always popular ‘previously enjoyed’ book sale.
Doors open at 10 A.M. and lunch is served at 11:30 A.M. so you will have ample time to enjoy a beverage, chat with friends, get a ticket for the raffles, and meet the guests of honor, our students. Or, most important, pay your dues! Dues ($15) for the 2013-14 club year are now being accepted.
The Treasurer will be on hand to collect or you may mail your check to: FFGLC, Village Green Mall, P.O. Box 2004, Fairfield Glade, TN 38558-2004. Be sure to verify your information with the Membership Committee member present, including email, for inclusion in the Club Yearbook.
While female property owners are welcome to join at any time, payment must be received not later than the September meeting to ensure you are included in the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Directory.
The June menu features fried chicken breast, mashed potatoes, baked beans, homemade biscuits and the Chef’s surprise sweet ending as well as beverages. The Luncheon is $13 and those checking you in would appreciate a check or bills no larger than $20. If you prefer a heart healthy meal, a Chef’s salad is available for the same price.
Reservations for the June 5th meeting will be accepted on Wednesday, May 29, between eight and ten a.m. You may call 210-0067 or email [email protected] with the names of those in your group.
Cancellations must be received by 10 A.M. on Friday, May 31 or you will be responsible for the cost of your meal.
As always, there is a newcomers table…just mention that and you will be placed at a friendly table where you will meet others.
