The Springmeeting of the Fairfield Glade Neighborhood Watch Coalition (FGNWC) was held at the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center on Thursday, March 7. Over 100 residents were in attendance.
The key topic was “PREPAREDNESS” and provided critical and necessary knowledge to assist residents in handling an emergency, an evacuation or severe weather situations.
There were five presenters. Lt. Gary Howard of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department. discussed the “Chain of Command” in the event of a mass, county-wide disaster, notification of residents using the county’s HyperReach(Reverse 911) system and the evacuation routes out of Fairfield Glade. Mr. Robert Collester III, a Preparedness Activist and member of the North Cumberland Neighborhood Watch discussed the various support organizations that exist to assist in an emergency, how they would contribute and engage in an emergency situation.
Mr. Steve Norris, Cumberland County Meteorologist shared the history and trending of severe weather in Cumberland County/FFG and identified key times of the year to anticipate severe weather.
Mr. Ray Clarkof the FGNWC Board discussed the importance and advantages of weather radios and volunteered assistance in purchasing and programming this device.
And finally, Ms. LaVerdia McCulloughof the TN Commission on Aging and Disability, Emergency Management Coordinator shared with residents a PREPAREDNESS BACKPACK containing necessary items to assist residents in maintaining survival in the event of a major disaster.
They invite all FGNW Groups and Residents to come to the next meeting, June 13 at the Community Center.
