For The Vista
During the ice storm last month, a Fairfield Glade resident had to pick up a prescription at Kroger Pharmacy for his wife.
Unfortunately, he took a hard fall and 911 was called. Any time 911 is contacted for a Fairfield Glade call, they dispatch Fairfield Glade Public Safety, who were quickly on the scene.
However, due to the ice on the roads, the ambulance was delayed in answering the call.
Chief Hoover arrived at the scene and the injured resident was already nearing hypothermia. At that time, Santana Rodriguez, owner of the LaCosta Mexican Restaurant in the Village Green Mall, was assisting the man attempting to cover him sufficiently.
When Chief Hoover stated he needed a pillow to support the gentleman’s head, Mr. Rodriguez, recognized his severe condition, immediately went to his vehicle to retrieve blankets and a pillow.
He kindly helped place the pillow under the injured man’s head, and he and Chief Hoover placed both blankets completely over the gentleman, preventing hypothermia. The conditions were icy and dirty but Mr. Rodriguez had no regard for his items.
Mr. Rodriguez’s compassion quickly made a difference in the resident’s condition until the ambulance arrived.
