“Fighting Diabetes One Step at a Time” annual STRIDES WALK returns April 29th at Centennial Park, 837 Industrial Boulevard, in Crossville.
Watch for signs for parking and sign-in. Crossville Heating & Cooling is this year’s Corporate Sponsor. In addition, the Fairfield Glade and Crossville Lions Club, Cumberland County High School Leo Club and Cumberland Medical Center Diabetes Services are again sponsoring the event.
The 1.1 mile walk on a fairly flat surface will start at 9:00 am and is schedules to take a couple of hours. If you would prefer a longer walk, please feel free to circle the track as many times as you like.
The American Diabetes Association released data in June 2014 that accounted for 29.1 million Americans with the disease, Prevalence in seniors 65 and over remains high at 25.9%, or 11.8 seniors. The study also reported that diabetes remains the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
Registration forms are now available at several locations. Some of the locations are Regions Bank, First National Bank and Progressive Bank in Crossville and Peavine Road in Fairfield Glade, Cumberland Eye Center in Fairfield Glade, Eye Center of Tennessee in Crossville, the Wellness Centers in Fairfield Glade and Crossville and the CMC Diabetes Services in the Medical Center.

You are requested to complete the form as soon as possible and return with your payment to the address shown on the form to obtain several items at sign-in. There are two sides of the form. One side is for single walkers at a tax deductible cost of $25. The other side is a supporter form for individuals or businesses showing three levels of participation:
Bronze Level is for a $100.00 donation that allows for you to name two walkers and receive your name in publicity;
Silver Level is for a $250.00 donation that allows you to name 5 walkers and receive publicity;
Gold Level is for a $500.00 donation that allows you to name 10 walkers and receive publicity.
All walkers will receive an event T-Shirt, “goodie bag” containing a snack bar, some information about diabetes and sponsors and a bottle of water when you sign-in. Please mark your t-shirt size on the registration form. You will also receive completion recognition when walk is completed.
Proceeds from this event will be used to send six (6) Cumberland County students, who are Type 1 diabetic, to the Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children in Soddy, Tennessee for two weeks this summer. This Camp helps teach diabetic children how to live a normal and active lifestyle while coping with this disease. The remainder of the funds will go to the American Diabetes Association to help fight this dreaded disease.
