Local residents are invited to attend the April 29 meeting of the Fairfield Glade Rotary Club where Arthur Pais will talk about his childhood experience as a Lithuanian Jew who was sent to the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany during World War II.
The talk will be at the Legends Restaurant on April 29th starting at noon. As an option, lunch will be served from 11:30 AM to noon at a cost of $11 per person.
Mr. Pais was born in 1927 in Ukmerge, Lithuania. At age 14, German soldiers forcibly herded Pais and his parents and siblings into a ghetto. There he saw many young children and the elderly shot by the Germans.
Pais and his father and brother were sent to Dachau while his mother and sister were sent to a different camp. In 1945 at the age of 18 he was liberated.
Arthur Pais came to the USA in 1946 and currently lives in Knoxville with his wife Mimi.
