Kids on the Rise bid farewell to Megan Watson
By KEN STEADMAN
Megan Watson has been serving as Administrative Assistant to the Kids on the Rise Program for the past year. She was a member of the AmeriCore VISTA Program where she signed a one-year contract to help KOTR.
AmeriCore VISRA is a national service program to help assist communities and low- income families. It was founded as Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCore network in 1993. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a non-profit organization to help fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups and much more. Megan’s contract with KOTR ended June 27, 2009.
A group of Board members and some volunteers treated Megan to a dinner at Halcyon Days as an expression of thanks and gratitude for her contribution to the KOTR Program. Executive Director Gene Skipworth presented a signed card and a cash donation to help her on her way to a new career.
The Kids on the Rise Program has been successfully providing mentors and Story Book Readers to the Cumberland County schools since 1991. Their mission statement; ”To provide experiences for the youth that will help further develop their intellectual, social, verbal, and creative capacities and to facilitate their entry into a responsible, productive adulthood”, tells it all.
Mentors and Story Book Readers are always in need to serve our youth. Please call Executive Director Gene Skipworth if this program sounds interesting at 459-2388 or email him at: [email protected] for more information.
