The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club Travel Committee is now taking reservations for a seven-day adventure aptly titled “Branson with a Detour.”
The first detour is to Memphis. And what do you think of in Memphis? Elvis and Graceland, of course!
You will tour his home and the grounds and see the burial plot of Elvis and his twin.
At 5 P.M., you will find yourself downtown in the Peabody Hotel lobby (perhaps enjoying a libation) as you watch the famous March of the Ducks from their daytime gig in the lobby fountain to the special penthouse elevator whisking them to their private quarters.
Your lodging is nearby and you will have the evening to take advantage of the restaurants, music venues and sights and sounds of the famous Beale Street.
The second detour is to Little Rock and a visit to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. Opened in 2004, the dramatic glass building cantilevers over the river and was the impetus for the revitalization of the Arkansas River Front.
You will have time to visit the River Market nearby and a plethora (bunches) of interesting shops. Heifer International Campus is next door.
You will have to join them to find out what that is, if you don’t already know.
Following an on board guided tour of Little Rock, your deluxe motor coach departs for a third detour: two nights in unique Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In addition to the famous ‘baths’, the city was a hotbed for organized crime from the late 1800’s. The illegal activity ceased in the 1960‘s thanks to a federal crackdown by the U.S. Government.
You will visit the Gangster Museum of America – the only museum of its kind featuring the country’s most notorious mobsters. You’ll enjoy a narrated sightseeing tour aboard the amphibious vehicles, visit the baths, enjoy Master Illusionist Maxwell Blade, see beautifully restored landmarks and much more during your two days in Hot Springs.
Finally, Branson … who hasn’t heard of Branson, Missouri? The beautiful Ozark Mountains, great food, great entertainment and too much to do!
On your agenda: The Brett Family (a must see with world-class harmonies jam-packed with feel-good music and dance); The Pierce Arrow Show (known as Branson‘s hottest show); Andy Williams Moon River Theatre (Dick Van Dyke will be the featured guest the night we visit!); The Branson Belle Showboat (featuring the only fiddling aerialist in the world); and ‘Oh, What a Night’ – a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
There is one last detour as you head for the Plateau. A farewell lunch at Patti’s Settlement in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, is the perfect finale to a great trip.
A destination in itself, the food is to die for, the unique shops enticing and the grounds entrancing.
If this sounds like a fun early fall trip, make plans now!
