May 16 Second Annual Creative Compassion, Inc. BBQ Cookoff entertainment announced
Excellent entertainment will be provided by DSquared Productions, a non-profit performing arts organization with a mission to bring together amateur, professional, and semi-professional talent in all areas of the arts and entertainment field and unite them with venues to ply their trade. Jo Jo Kettler specializes in Country Western and gospel; Rusty McClanahan is retired from General Motors and was a karaoke D.J.; Dennis Donald has performed in several venues in Fairfield Glade and the Palace Theatre and is the founder of DSquared Productions; Patty Payne performed for the Cumberland County Playhouse for 30 years and is very well known for the roles she played there.
The second annual Amateur BBQ Cookoff will be held May 16th on the grounds at Wildwood Stables located at the corner of Chestnut Hill Rd and Westchester Dr. in Fairfield Glade. Amateur barbecuers will compete in four categories; pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken and best sauce, for $2,100 in cash prizes. Since there is no entry fee for competing this year, Creative Compassion, Inc. and Wildwood Stables are expecting several entries. The public will be invited to sample the BBQ entries and will vote for the best overall BBQ Champion. The event will start on Saturday, May 16 at noon till 5 p.m. and will cost $6.00 per person or $10 for 2 adults and 2 children which will entitle you to a bowl & fork to sample the entries, baked beans, cole slaw, a ballot for the People Choice Award, and a raffle ticket for prizes. Pony rides and drinks will be available.
In addition to all the activities going on at Wildwood Stables on May 16th, the Bitter Creek Rangers will be at the farm. The Rangers are a family-oriented Cowboy Action Shooting club and Old West Re-enactment group of men and women that dress up in the Old West identity and costumes. You might even see some old cowboy look-alike heroes like Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gene Autry, Wild Bill Hitchcock, and others!!
Of course, the entire event is to raise money to help low to moderate income families obtain adequate housing. Founded in 1989, Creative Compassion, Inc. is a faith-based, non-sectarian, non-profit certified by THDA as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) that specializes in New Home Construction, Repair and Remodeling and Multi-Family Housing for low to moderate income families.
