PAART presents The Brother’s Grimm at the Palace March 4
By JUDY PEARSON
On Friday, March 4, the Performing Arts Alliance of Rural Tennessee (PAART) brings the Nashville Opera to the Palace Theatre in Crossville with the U.S. Premiere of The Brothers Grimm.
In the story, two brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, are unhappy that they can’t sell their dictionaries and encyclopedias. Suddenly Brentano, a wealthy poet and publisher, appears at the door and asks the brothers to collect folktales for study by teachers and professors. At first, the brothers don’t want to waste their time studying “silly little tales,” but when Brentano offers them good pay and fame, they quickly agree. The brothers quickly realize that they must find people with stories.
As people arrive with their stories, the brothers fashion them into the stories we all know today: the story of Rapunzel, the girl with the long hair, the story of the little girl in the red cape going through the woods to visit her grandmother, and the story of Rumpelstiltskin, the elf that spins straw into gold.
When Brentano returns and says he has changed his mind and no longer wants to pay for their efforts, the brothers despair of ever publishing the stories. They are saved (as in a fairytale) by the return of the storytellers who guarantee many sales for their book of stories. Finally, everyone will know and enjoy a book by the Brothers Grimm!
This happy true story will be played out on the stage of the historic Palace Theatre at 72 S. Main Street in Crossville 7:00 pm on Friday, March 4th. There will be a student/senior outreach matinee at 12:30.
Tickets for the evening performance are $10 adults/$5 students. Matinee tickets are $3 for students (and parents of homeschoolers) and $5 for seniors. Teachers who bring a group of 10 or more are admitted free. The performance is a short 45-50 minutes and the evening performance will be followed by a reception to meet the artists.
Tickets are available by phone at the Cumberland County Playhouse by calling 931-484-5000 or online at www.ccplayhouse.com and include any ticketing service charges that may apply. Tickets are also available at the historic Palace Theatre, 72 S Main Street, Crossville, phone 931-484-6133.
