At 89, Ercil Heim of Fairfield Glade is enjoying her days at Eagle’s Wings Senior Day Retreat.
“I look forward to coming and spending time with others,” she says with a smile.
Heim recently moved to Cumberland County after spending a majority of her life in the Baltimore, Maryland area. After having a stroke, she moved in with her son and daughter in-law in Tennessee.
“My son has always wanted to live here,” she shares. “He says it’s because the people are really nice and there are a lot of places to fish.”
Just before her move, Heim experienced a light stroke. Although it’s slightly impacted her right side’s mobility and her memory, she is still able to do many things she enjoys most like painting.
“I learned how to paint when I retired and spent a lot of my time at my local senior center,” she explains. “I also enjoyed making flower arrangements, however it was spending time with others that I enjoyed most of all.”
Her desire to be around others led her to tell her son to look for a place where she could get out and socialize with others.
“We took advantage of the opportunity to have Mother spend the day at Eagles Wings on a trial basis before committing to a regular schedule,” her son and daughter in-law shared. “After our review and assessment, we have complete confidence in the care and attention she receives. The time Mother spends at the retreat is beneficial to her wellbeing, while providing her with direction and purpose.”
Heim says she is pleased with Eagle’s Wings Senior Day Retreat and looks forward to her time there. Not only is she able to be with others, but she has also been able to share her love for painting with them.
When asked what her secret to living a long and healthy life is, she says, “Working hard and doing what’s best for your family is most important of all.”
During her younger years, she dedicated her time and energy to raising her children, working in a factory and helping those around her.
“Eagle’s Wings is a great place to come. I particularly like starting my days there with Bible studies and my time painting with others,” Heim said.
Eagle’s Wings Senior Day Retreat offers those who are aging activities and socialization in a medically supervised, home-like environment. Members often need extra assistance performing their daily living activities.
