RHA to host UT Women’s Athletic Director Joan Cronan February 24
Anytime you have a chance to hear Joan Cronan speak; seize the opportunity! What better time than February 28, 2011 at the Fairfield Glade Resident Homeowners Association (RHA) monthly dinner meeting. The “Lady Vols” basketball team is about to embark on the quest for an unprecedented 9th NACWAA National Championship. They will always be the Tennessee favorite to win it all. With coach Pat Summit, who holds the record for all-time wins in any men’s or women’s collegiate sport; and Joan Cronan, one of the most admired and honored women’s athletic directors in the U.S., the Lady Vols are always a top contender for national achievement.
Joan Cronan is a key to UT’s success in both the athletic and academic success of the talented ladies who chose to attend the University of Tennessee and participate in Division I NCWAA sports. Joan is in her 28th year at UT. She has provided vision, and leadership throughout those years and before. She is a graduate of LSU, served two years as UT women’s basketball coach and rejoined UT as athletic director after serving 10 years as athletic director at College of Charleston in South Carolina. That program was selected as the No. 1 women’s athletic program in the U.S. by the American Women’s Sports Foundation in 1980. Under her leadership UT has won 10 NACWAA titles, 45 Top-five finishes, 78 Top-10 finishes, 28 SEC Championships, and 22 SEC Tournament Championships. Her individual accomplishments are no less impressive; a very few highlights: 2010 Member of NCAA Division I Leadership Council, 2009 Women of Achievement Award-“Women Who Make a Difference” by the International Women’s Forum, 2007-08 NACWAA President, 2005 NACWAA Athletic Director of the Year. The list of honors and community, state and national leadership positions she has filled seem endless and continue throughout her long career of accomplishment. Joan also finds time to be an avid golfer and tennis player; she is a former state and Southern tennis doubles champion. A widow, Joan has two daughters, three grandsons and two granddaughters. If you harbor any doubt that you cannot miss hearing Joan at the RHA meeting, consider that she is a winner of the Toastmaster’s, International Communication and Leadership Award.
