Doug Scarlett — the owner of Scarlett Catering in Fairfield Glade — has announced his candidacy for Cumberland County Mayor.
Scarlett has previous experience as a two-term mayor of Vernon, Michigan, which gives him experience in dealing with municipal governments and state agencies.
He also has experience as a Police Officer, Fireman and in Ambulance Service. He is past Chairman of the Cumberland County Red Cross, past Chairman of the Bread of Life, past President of Crossville Rotary, former Funeral Director and present Board Member of Good Samaritans.
These activities will be extremely desirable for the daily dealings with various agencies and local community organizations that are so important to citizens.
Doug is a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as the chef on Air Force One for two Presidents.
As mentioned, he and his wife Sarah own and operate Scarlett Catering located at 5429 Peavine Road.
He has been a businessman for over 49 years and knows the issues that Cumberland County businessmen and businesswomen face.
As a founding member of the Michigan Durand-Vernon industrial development corporation, Doug has experience to attract new industry to Cumberland County.
He is able to help citizens in many different areas and to assist our community towards a prosperous future.
Doug has stated that his reason for becoming the next Cumberland County Mayor is to help Cumberland County move forward by acquiring more jobs, better pay for our residents, bringing in more business and more tax base thereby reducing county taxes for all taxpayers.
Doug and Sarah live in Crossville. They have 7 children and 12 grand children.
