Spring Hill native’s consistency enables her to hold off Martin

Laura Stratton, an amatuer from Spring Hill, TN, was the mark of consistency over three rounds and it resulted in a one-stroke victory over professional Mo Martin at the Tennessee Women’s Open, held last weekend at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
Stratton shot an even par round of 72 on the final day to go along with a 69 on Thursday and a 70 on Friday, for a 5-under par 211 total.
Amazingly, Stratton had just two bogeys over the 54-hole event.
Martin, from Altadena, CA, was 6-under par for the tourney but bogeyed the 17th and 18th holes to come up a stroke short (74-69-69—212).
Haley Ann Wilson of Ft. Mitchell, AL, was 5-under par through nine holes on Saturday’s final round, but bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes. She finished third with a 3-under par 213 total.
Last year’s champion, amateur Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City, TN, finished fourth with a 1-under 215 total. She shot even par 72 on the final day after carding a 70 and 73 on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Martindale seemed to be rallying, getting to 3-under on the tournament with a birdie on the 11th, but pars at 12 thru 16 and bogeys at 17 and 18 ended her chances.
