The Fairfield Glade Fire Department received a call from Cumberland 911 dispatch to respond to a fully involved structure fire on Friday, January 10th around 5 P.M. The home was located on Lakeview Drive. This would be the first structure fire in 2014 for the FGFD.
The home owners were home at the time and stated that they heard a lot of popping and explosions coming from the garage area. When they went to investigate and opened the garage interior door, they found that the garage was fully engulfed in flames, and called 911.
When the first FGFD units arrived, the garage roof had collapsed and the vehicles inside were burning and spilling gasoline on the floor which helped to fuel the fire.
The entry team made entry and worked very hard to extinguish the fire in the ceiling areas keeping the fire from reaching the bedrooms and bathroom in the back of the house. This area was kept free from any fire damage. The source of the fire at this point is yet to be determined and is under investigation to find the cause if possible.
“All the fire departments equipment responded along with some 30 plus firefighters who did an outstanding job of saving part of this home,” said Fairfield Glade Fire Chief, Howard Robb.
