For The Vista
The 18-member Swing Street Big Band has announced a new 2014 Fairfield Glade dance schedule. It begins with the first dance of the year at 7 P.M., Thursday, Feb. 6.
The new schedule includes 11 dances, according to band director William Schneider. Eight dances will be on Thursday nights and three on Saturday nights at the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center.
Schneider said the new dates are in response to requests from dance enthusiasts for a more regular monthly schedule. For the past two years, dances were held on Friday or Saturday nights during different weeks of the month.
“We worked closely with the Fairfield Glade Community Club staff to find a regular date in every month that was available for our program. The first Thursday of every month worked for eight of the 12 months of the year. The new schedule will allow us to perform for a dance every month except January,” Schneider said.
“The Thursday night dances will be on the first Thursday of the month, February through June, and September through November,” Schneider said.
The Saturday dances are schedule for July 5, Aug. 9 and Dec. 6.
The band’s performances include swing, fox trot, waltz, cha cha, and rumba rhythms.
Tables for the dances seat eight persons and may be reserved. Beverages are available for purchase. Guests may bring snacks.
The Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center is at 128 Stonehenge Road, six miles north of I-40 (Exist 322, Peavine Road).
Tickets are $27.50 per couple ($13.75 per person), including tax, in advance.
Reservations can be made and tickets paid prior to the event at the Center. Phone reservations may be charged to a credit card by calling the Center at 931-484-3722. The Community and Conference Center accommodates approximately 130 persons for the dance.
The dance includes a cash bar, but guests may bring snacks or finger food.
The band’s performance continues a 17-year tradition of regular big band dances in Fairfield Glade.
