This picture was worth a thousand words, indeed

At right is a photo of Fairfield Glade residents Bob and JoAnne Paton on their wedding day on August 10, 1952. The photo was a huge hit at the time in the local newspaper in Kankakee, Illinois.
When their wedding picture was published in the newspaper, the editor wrote an article to tell readers to look on the front page of the next section to see a “World’s Champion Photo.”
He went on to say, ”We refer readers who may have some doubt about the human capacity for happiness to rest their orbs briefly upon a … picture we take great pleasure in publishing on the first page of section B, this issue.
“The picture, of course, is that of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Paton, newlyweds. We have seen a lot of pictures in our time, but we have never seen such a high degreee of utter and complete happiness our entire career as a jerk-town newsman.
“… The picture would be outstanding in any company and if, by some happy combination of circumstances, in which chance figured 98 percent and luck the remaining two percent, we ever managed to come up with a picture like it, we would know that the judges were being bribed by the opposition if the photo did not grab all of the first prizes in picture contests from New York to San Francisco.”
