By TOM ACKERLY
The Board of Directors of the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Alumni, Inc. is pleased to announce the 11th annual charity golf tournament on May 12th at Deer Creek Golf Club. Tournament directors will be Bill Halsey and Tom Ackerly along with special honorary tournament director George Ellenberg.
This charity event raises funds to assist local medically certified patients needing cardiac or pulmonary rehab. The rehab consists of a 13 week “boot camp” to enhance lifestyles. It is a two-fold program that combines physical and educational training aimed at reducing health risks and improving quality of life.
In addition, the C/PR Alumni, Inc. provides support for community health fairs, educational seminars, health education scholarships and coming soon healthy cooking classes.
The golf tournament is a fun event organized around four person teams and is limited to 144 golfers. The donation is $55 per golfer, which includes a light breakfast snack, lunch, prizes, cart and greens fees. Everyone tees off at 8A.M.
Get a group of your favorite golfers together and fill an entry form and mail with your checks to Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Alumni (C/PR Alumni), POB 14, Crossville, TN 38557-0014. Entry forms are available at Deer Creek Golf Club or by e-mail. Phone Bill Halsey at 707-5505 or Tom Ackerly at 456-0391 with your e-mail.
The tournament offers hole sponsorships for those who donate $200. It is a qualifying tax-deductible donation under the Internal Revenue Code. Other donor opportunities are available. Additional information is available from Bill at 707-5505 or Tom at 456-0391.
All dollars raised stay in this community and since this is an all-volunteer organization there is very little overhead. Money goes where it is needed most—to the patients.

Hospice of Cumberland County Benefit Golf Tournament is May 13
Hospice of Cumberland County will host its annual benefit golf tournament Wednesday, May 13th at Lake Tansi Golf Course, according to tournament co-chairs Don and Sherry Koch. The format will be a four person scramble with a maximum of 36 teams. There will be three flights of teams, a combination of men’s, women’s and mixed teams, determined by team scores at the end of the round. The entry donation is $75 per golfer and includes greens fees, cart, one mulligan per player, gift bag, lunch, beverage, and prizes. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 prior to the shotgun start of the tournament at 1:00 pm. In the unlikely event of a rainout, the lunch will be served and prizes awarded by a drawing. Get your team together and fill out the attached team entry form; mail checks to Hospice Golf Tournament, 30 E. Adams Street, Crossville, TN 38555.
In previous years, many local companies have pledged their support with a $150.00 tax deductible donation for a hole sponsorship. Since the tournament’s success relies on donations, we also request that individuals consider a hole sponsorship “in memory of” or “in honor of” a loved one, especially if that loved one enjoyed the game of golf. The tournament is in May, so this would be a wonderful Mother’s Day gift or remembrance of a loved one. Companies and individuals interested in supporting the tournament may contact Ken Taylor, Hospice Executive Director, at 931-484-4748 or Don Koch at 931-707-7834.
Fairfield Glade Rotary Club announces 2009 Annual Family Golf Tournament June 27
By PAUL WENNERMARK
The Fairfield Glade Rotary Club is proud to announce our 2009 Annual Family Golf Tournament scheduled for June 27, 2009 at the Heatherhurst Golf Course – Crag. This event is one of our major fund raisers for the year which allows us to support many local non-profit agencies. With the help of sponsors and Golf Tournament participants, last year’s event raised approximately $8,000 for our community. Some of the recipients supported by Rotary donations were: Avalon Center, Kids on the Rise, SMHS Baseball Boosters, CCHS Choral Group, Hospice of Cumberland County, CCHS Jazz Ensemble, Scholarships for Cumberland Co. Students in Tennessee Universities, Rotary Youth Leadership Scholars, Tennessee Technology Center Scholarships.
All golfers of Crossville, Cumberland County and surrounding communities are urged to sign up now for this unique one-of-kind golf tournament in the Crossville area. What makes it unique is a focus on the family. Registration requires that two-member teams be made up with some family connection, ie. parent, son/daughter, grandparent, grandchild, husband, wife, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece. Rotarians were also proud to sponsor free-of-charge, golf team members in the Cumberland County School System. These students are paired with other family members or Rotarian mentors. So, sign up today for this fun charity Fairfield Glade Rotary Club 2009 Family Golf Tournament.
