Wagner resigns as Cumberland Medical Center CEO
For The Vista
Dr. Barry Wagner resigned as Cumberland Medical Center’s CEO effective Friday, September 7.
With his departure, the CMC Board of Directors is evaluating strategies with regard to healthcare reform, physician alignment, and an unsustainable payment system. In order to begin to move forward, Larry Moore will serve as Interim CEO.
On a larger scale, the CMC Board has a commitment to provide quality healthcare services to the residents of Cumberland County. This strategy requires access to capital markets in order to meet the needs of technology requirements and infrastructure upgrades. Therefore, CMC will begin to evaluate a stronger relationship with Covenant Health. CMC already utilizes Thompson Cancer Survival Center, a member of Covenant Health, as the manager of our CMC Regional Cancer Center. Additionally, CMC and Covenant Health are currently working on the development of an interventional cardiology program. This next step will allow CMC to explore the implications of any further relationship including a possible merger. These activities will transpire over the balance of the current fiscal year.
CMC’s Board is committed to ensure the residents of Cumberland County will continue to receive the highest level of medical services in keeping with Dr. May Wharton’s legacy and the hospital’s mission. The Board and the hospital’s management team are also committed to continue to support our employees and medical staff and provide them with the facilities and equipment necessary to provide excellent care to the citizens of our community.
