Warning: Beware of Bears

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, Bears are expanding their range on the Cumberland Plateau. The following information is provided courtesy of the TWRA.
Bears are omnivores, which mean that they will take advantage of multiple food sources.
This tendency is the root of most human/bear conflicts. While most conflicts can be avoided, it is up to Tennessee residents to take action.
The following steps will greatly reduce the chances of human/bear conflicts on your property.
1. Never feed or approach bears
2. Store garbage & recyclables in bear-proof or resistant containers/dumpsters or in a secure area.
3. Place trash outside on pick-up days, not the night before.
4. Do not feed birds between April & January when bears are most active.
5. Always keep pet foods in a secure location. Feed pets a portion size that will be completely consumed during each meal.
6. Do not add food to compost piles.
7. Keep grills & smokers clean and stored indoors when not in use.
8. Keep windows closed when cooking.
If you see a Bear being aggressive, causing property damage or continuing to visit after all food sources have been removed, contact the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency at 931-484-9571.
