World War I war hero Sergeant Alvin C. York’s great granddaughter Deborah York will speak at the Tuesday, October 1 Fairfield Glade Rotary Club meeting.
She is the Executive Director of the Sergeant York Patriotic Foundation. She works with the York State Park and the York family to preserve and promote the legacy of Sergeant York.
The foundation’s mission is to preserve his homeplace, family farm, bible school, and artifacts.
The foundation also develops and coordinates educational opportunities for youth and adults, increase sustainable heritage tourism to Sgt. York State Park, and restore the 1920’s era York Institute Building.
The York facilities are in Pall Mall, TN are open daily to the public without charge.
If you have not already visited, it is a short drive from here and a great way to honor and preserve the memory of America’s most famous WWI war hero.
While not confirmed yet, one or more of Sergeant York’s surviving children, George, Andrew, and Betsy may be attending our Rotary meeting and if so will be available to answer questions. I
